IMO Trayvon was doing his thug walk with thug attitude and dressed like a thug so he could get a thrill from intimidating people in a place where such a display is not normal.
Enter Zimmerman, who turned that scenario on its head by making Trayvon feel intimidated by following and being on the phone.
Right after they lost contact, it sank into Trayvon how he became the scared one and that enraged him. Trayvon then went back determined to attack Zimmerman to repair the damage done to his thuggish self identity.

I’m in agreement...there was some element of disrespect done to Trayvon’s identity. That, and a bit of paranoid behavior....did him in. There’s probably a thousand assaults a year in the US like this....it’s just that no one pays attention to this behavior anymore.
