Dogs don’t have a good reputation in either the Bible or Koran.

Dogs in the Middle East connotes an image of desert jackals and wild dogs that would prey on flocks, consume the bodies of fallen soldiers, and disturb graves to get at bodies. They are roughly in the same class as pigs, unclean animals.

Speaking of which I've got two racks of dry rubbed St. Louis style ribs cooking at this very moment. If I was SE Asian (or President of the United States) that might be Rover or Rex out in the smoker.

Maybe so, but Jesus did mention that there was one sitting under the table getting scraps. I know, it is a metaphor for gentiles getting the spiritual scraps falling from the children of Israel, but still, there was a dog sitting under the table, getting fed, and he belonged there. I bet Adam and Eve made sure their dog was with them when they left the garden.

well, I don’t know if its Buddhist or animist or just ancient superstition but when we lived in Thailand dogs were considered to be reincarnated criminals and treated despicably

My Yorkie finds your comment offensive.

In my Bible, there is a dog mentioned in the OT Book of Tobit. So it is not true that the Bible bad-mouths dogs.

Jesus uses an affectionate term “puppy”—a child’s pet which would eat scraps the children dropped on the floor; as a metaphor to describe a gentile woman who was used to getting the scraps of the teachings given to the Jews.

In that encounter, we see Christ’s regard for the woman, and based on his choice of words, we can infer His personal regard for even the (culturally despised) dogs.

As Christianity spread and took root in societies, regard for the dignity of women as fellow heirs of grace, and regard for dogs has also increased.

I don’t believe either is coincidental.
