School segregation remains a reality: 74 percent of African Americans still attend majority nonwhite schools, compared to just over 76 percent in the late 1960s, writes The Nations Greg Kauffman. But theres a demographic reality to consider, responds Matthew Yglesias in Slate. U.S. schools are running low on white kids. Non-Hispanic whites were 54 percent of the under-18 population in 2010, compared to 74 percent in 1980, according to the Census Bureau. Furthermore, among kids under the age of 5, non-Hispanic whites are a minority.

We cant integrate our way to better school performance, agrees Sara Mead. That includes socio-economic integration, the dream of smart liberal school reformers in recent years. Like whites, middle-class students from two-parent families are in short supply and not evenly distributed. The challenge is to design schools to meet the needs of low-income, minority students. The no-excuses model adopted by some urban charter (and Catholic) schools can make a difference. Are there other models with evidence of success?

The problem with socialism is sooner or later, you run out of other people’s money. And when you reward failure, sooner or later, you run out of people with brains, skills, a work ethic and a drive to succeed.
Doesn't need to be said but, ... this is by design
It is happening to the white kids, too, to the ones whose families don’t care about their futures and consign them to Public Schools.
The flight from public schools is just that; the flight from public schools. Children become products of their environment. Public schools have become anti-family social experiments.
My husband taught Jr College and the A/B math students out of the Memphis City Schools had to go through his remedial math class before they went on to the Electronics class he also taught.
The Alabama Federation of Republican Women (AFRW) strongly opposes "race-based standards for student achievement" pushed by the Alabama Department of Education, as reported in The Tuscaloosa News on Sunday, June 30. Minority students will be held to a lower standard, and would be tracked at a lower standard throughout their academic career from K-12.
According to this article by Jamon Smith, "Beginning this fall, Alabama public schools will be under a new state-created academic accountability system that sets different goals for students in math and reading based on their race, economic status, ability to speak English and disabilities." Alabama's Plan 2020 "sets a different standard for students in each of several subgroups -- American Indian, Asian/Pacific islander, black, English language learners, Hispanic, multirace, poverty, special education and white."
The "race-based" standards are part of Common Core, adopted by the state board of education in November 2010
No surprise there.
Mr. Ayers, who in 1970 was said to have summed up the Weatherman philosophy as: ''Kill all the rich people. Break up their cars and apartments. Bring the revolution home, kill your parents, that's where it's really at,'' is today distinguished professor of education at the University of Illinois at Chicago. And he says he doesn't actually remember suggesting that rich people be killed or that people kill their parents, but ''it's been quoted so many times I'm beginning to think I did,'' he said. ''It was a joke about the distribution of wealth.''
A white Hispanic whose ancestors are 100% European does better by identifying as Hispanic because he then qualifies for ethnic quotas. I believe Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio are 100% white. And most of the prominent Hispanics are not distinguishable from whites. It's kind of annoying that a lot of whites with Indian blood don't claim Indian ancestry for quota purposes, but Hispanics whose ancestors weren't North Americans or even from the Americas get to benefit from ethnic quotas.
He was not joking. Does he think all of us are stupid? This revolution has his finerprints all over it.
I read an interesting artcle the other day regarding this topic. The vast majority of people south of us have majority white blood. Hispanic is a term that means pretty much nothing.
Re: The problem with socialism is sooner or later, you run out of other peoples money. And when you reward failure, sooner or later, you run out of people with brains, skills, a work ethic and a drive to succeed.
I would add to your statement, “And when you reward failure” three words: and penalize success.
I think there's significant worry about the potential for the kind of separatism among Hispanics that we've seen among blacks followed by a kind of Jim Crow in reverse. I don't think there's any danger of that. Hispanics are pretty un-PC about skin color but there's no systematic discrimination that I know of over skin color in Latin America, and intermarriage is rife both there and stateside. And I don't even think it's surprising. Hispanics are basically Latin American whites with more Indian blood than we've generally gotten in North America. And once the Indian tribes were pacified stateside, we've generally gotten along well with them. Those who wanted to assimilate did so rapidly, such that the vast majority have white blood. I think of the Hispanics with pure Indian blood as Indians who happen to speak Spanish. The real problem with amnesty is that we don't have the capacity to assimilate this many people quickly - adding foreign poverty to domestic poverty means generations of Democratic political dominance, with the huge and wasteful new government programs that entails.
Seen first hand results and I say it is a misnomer to call them “schools” when they are more resembling zoos where the residents do anything they please, learn little if not all the wrong things and are only restrained from exiting.
It’s very difficult to ‘claim’ indian ancestry. If your ancestor wasn’t on one of the official ‘enrollment’ documents from the late 1800’s you’re pretty much SOL with that. To officially claim Indian ancestry you need a certificate of Indian birth. Those are only given out by the tribes for people of certain proven blood quantum amounts.
My own paternal grandmother was 1/2 Indian. Her mother was 1/2 Cherokee and her dad was 1/2 Choctaw. Neither of them were on any enrollment document. So, to this government, my grandmother, my dad and myself are all ‘white’ just like Gordon Ramsay.
That's what forced busing is all about, silly. Don't think it is still happening? Look at EBR Parish school district, 98% black, most white kids have been sprinkled around the district, every year a new school, usually. They, (the white kids) get no say in where they will be placed, but the black kids can choose whether they want to go to their neighborhood school, or be bussed into a 'white' neighborhood.
Since it is done with such a heavy hand against whites, and basically kids are bussed more than an hour each way to inner city schools, what white parents are going to stand for it? As someone who has been bussed, I say: unless you have been bussed away from your neighborhood school against your will to an inner city school, you don't get to have a say in this argument. That eliminates all blacks.
Exactly! Darn right!
While that is absolutely true, I'd say our even bigger problem is that we don't even make an attempt to assimilate them and leave them as open prey to the left (academia, popular culture, run of the mill leftist rabble rousers, etc)
I live in Arizona which has long been around 30% Mexican and we've maintained a conservative/libertarian political structure. As with most of our problems, the issues are much to do with the left and our side unable, unwilling and too too fricking stupid to fight back, fight smart and take some control of things or even make an effort.
“U.S. schools are running low on white kids.”
Yeh whites are putting their kids in private school to keep them away from the little Trayvons.
