Packed Lunches May Be Off The Menu At Schools
Millions of pounds are to be given to schools to improve meals as it is recommended that unhealthy packed lunches are banned. 8:28am UK, Friday 12 July 2013
Packed lunches may be banned by some schools as the Government tries to get more children to eat school dinners.
The Department for Education is pledging £16.1m to help make the meals they provide more popular.
Head teachers will be responsible for improving take up.
That could include some schools in England stopping pupils bringing in food from home, cutting the price of cooked dinners or making children stay on-site at break time.
The changes follow a year-long review aimed at ensuring pupils eat healthier lunches.
An estimated 20% of children are already obese when they leave primary school.
Currently 57% either bring in packed lunches or buy something from outside school costing parents around £1bn a year.
The Government said these meals often contain too many sweets, fizzy drinks and fatty foods and the money would be better spent on healthy school lunches.
Announcing the plans, Education Secretary Michael Gove said: "What I'd like to see is a greater take up of school food.
"As a result of this; more children eating school lunches and fewer having packed lunches, more children being healthier and more energetic throughout the day, and the nation, as a result, benefiting from improved brain power."
Cooking classes will also be compulsory for all under-14s.

Yes, we wouldn’t want any of that pesky, crazy self-sufficiency or freedom. And imagine if someone was allergic! It’s for the children.....for brain power you see./
Yep and it will be coming to a school near you. Kids will be forced to eat school lunches whether they like it or not and any kid who refuses to eat it will be punished.

They fail to educate them about food, so they must dictate.
And as always, it is for everyone’s own good. Of course, there will be lots more taxpayer dollars going to those select crony businesses that get contracts with the government. You scratch my back—I’ll scratch your’s.

NORTH CAROLINA - A North Carolina grandmother is very upset after her granddaughter’s home-made lunch was taken away at school.
School officials said it wasn’t nutritious enough.
It happened to a 5-year-old pre-k student. The student’s lunch was taken away and she was forced to eat cafeteria chicken nuggets

Wow, I went to public school 1 year in the USA.
I packed a lunch because our family kept kosher.
I presume this would be forbidden in the UK.

Hmmm, that's interesting. What are these schools going to do with the different religions foods? Catholics who don't eat meat on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday, will there be some special meatless lunches for them? And as you pointed out, what about the Jewish people? I'm guessing the muslims food preferences will take top priority, no pork of any kind will be served in the schools. Parents should start filing a class action law suit for food discrimination.

If the State doesn’t like the way the parents feed their children, how can they trust the parents to put them to bed, or choose their leisure activities? At birth the spawn must be removed and placed into suitable dormitories for life according to how the elite State sees fit.
