Religious Groups Urge House to Act on Immigration Reform

A foursome of religious groups that include many conservatives is pressing the House to approve immigration reform.

"For those of us who are Christians, we must heed the direct commandment of Jesus to welcome the stranger," Jim Wallis, the president of Sojourners, said in a letter. "That is why evangelicals are praying for every member of the House and will continue to speak out publicly in support of Congress taking action."

The Senate passed a reform bill last month, but House Speaker John Boehner said he won't bring that proposal up for a vote, given strong opposition among the Republican conference. Boehner said on Monday that the House will come up with an immigration overhaul of its own.

The four religious organizations include the Sojourners, National Association of Evangelicals, the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention, and the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference, Politico reports. All of those groups include conservative elements, except the Sojourners.

The groups are keeping the focus of the immigration issue on compassion and are peppering House members with letters on the issue.

The four groups support the possibility of citizenship for illegal immigrants, a policy that many conservatives reject. Russell Moore, president of the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission, wrote in his group's letter "a solution that respects the rule of law, treats undocumented immigrants in the nation compassionately, and provides them a tough, yet achievable, earned pathway to citizenship is necessary."

Meanwhile, three major secular conservative groups urged House Speaker John Boehner Tuesday to push ahead with immigration reform, The Hill reports.

"For those of us who are Christians, we must heed the direct commandment of Jesus to welcome the stranger,"

I wonder why this welcome the stranger only applies here in America . I've never seen anybody in Mexico stand up and say,"For those of us who are Christians, we must heed the direct commandment of Jesus to welcome the stranger," Welcome the stranger who is using fake or stolen documents, driving without licenses and insurances. What is Jesus saying about these illegals who hire the Mexican drug cartels and pay them thousands of dollars to be smuggled into this country ? Just how many Catholic hospitals are offering free heathcare for illegal immigrants ?What does Jesus think about illegals running up hospital bills and never paying for services given unto them ? Is it moral for illegals to rip off dr's,labs,x-rays who all bill separately do religious groups think medical professionals are suppose to work for free and it's ok for illegals to get theft of services ?

So what does God say about using manipulation tactics to get their way over the desires of a vast majority of the people?

I wasn’t aware that Christians practiced taqiyya.

Was in Mexico City the other day.

Saw no white anglo-saxon protestants in any kind of employment capacity. Only handing over the cash to the locals.

And there was no one working behind any counter that spoke English among themselves, although many did speak English to the customers.

In short, Mexico was Mexico. Fair enough.

Don’t see why Jesus would say it isn’t fair for the U.S. to ask for the same thing.

Pretty sure he wouldn’t.

This horrible Amnesty bill will destroy America:

Gives amnesty to 30 million illegals.

Then each of those 30 million can bring in 5 family members from the 3rd world = 150 million new 3rd world immigrants.

Then the democrats can use these new 100 million democrat voters to achieve absolute power and turn the USA into a communist state as is their goal.

How is this good ?

We already have millions out of work. Obama and crew keep saying 11 million. It has been 11 million for over a decade. It would be more like 20-30 million. They are still coming here by the hundreds everyday. Why don’t all these church members all put signs in their own yards, of how they welcome the strangers, come on in ?

There is Soros money being funneled into these left-wing evangelical groups. Now why would Soros be supporting evangelicals, unless they were in favor of something he’s in favor of?
Read VDARE.COM, that website has had some information on these leftist evangelicals.

Liberals tend to abuse biblical verses. They see individual commandments and insist God was making an edict to a secular govt.

” “For those of us who are Christians, we must heed the direct commandment of Jesus to welcome the stranger,”

Welcome, NOT make him a citizen, and pay his welfare check!
