I had a fun morning at the GOP Douglas County July 4th pancake breakfast. In some instances, I had my Sarah Palin Picture (2' by 3'), in other instances I had my "NO AMNESTY" sign.
Reflections:
Palin is still popular with the rank-and-file. The GOPe wannabe crowd didn't even want to look. Many good comments, smiles and thumbs up.
When I had the "NO AMNESTY" sign it was the same. To be more specific, certain groups were far more receptive such as the Janssen for Governor volunteers, rank-and-file members, and the young crowd. Many, many smiles and thumbs up.
The bigwig county reps and state leaders who were there...not so much as a peep. Just a silent walk through.
The biggest disappointment was NE state treasurer Shane Osborn (running for US senate...considered an "insider" and Governor Heinmann's pick). It appeared that he made a deliberate attempt to avoid eye contact with me and the "NO AMNESTY" sign. He and his entourage averted their eyes and passed by.
Congressman Lee Terry (NE2) and his group were in attendance. When Terry walked by I did get his attention and he saw my sign. He smiled and said hello but didn't engage in conversation (the same can be said for his volunteers). I've known some of their volunteers for a while and their reactions were noticeable. NO ONE from the group wanted to comment.
I did get a nice comment from a long term GOP member who agreed with my positions. He told me that my presence was appreciated if nothing more than to remind the leadership that we're watching them. Sometimes, "silent pressure" can be just as potent.
Only chance to stop the Amnesty bill is for the House not to consider any immigration related bill at all.
Michelle Bachman explained it. ANY House bill no matter if it promises all the border security in the world will be a trojan horse.NO bill at all must come out of the House because it will be merged with the Senate Amnesty and trojan horse bill. Call congress.
Tell them to stop all Amnesty or immigration bills.they are all trojan horse bills. some will promise border security that will never be enforced anyway.
Bachmann explained it . The House will write a border security bill only . then in conference the senate will add the virus and then bring it back to the house. then the conservatives won’t vote for it but democrats will all vote for it so then they only need 10% of republicans to pass Amnesty and the virus that will destroy America. so any bill at all will be added the virus . so best thing is for Boner to not let any immigration bill at all come out of the House. that is the only hope . call boner and the members of the House.

No bill at all: won’t work, as Boehner will want “his” bill passed, knowing that ultimately he will get his real wish, the Senate Rubio bill. People in OH will be thrilled too.
Is Shane Osborn related to that old Cornhuskers coach you all had up there?
