The term “creative” is a misnomer- an Enlightenment superlative used for effect.
There is only one Creator. We humans just rearrange the goods.
During the Enlightenment, certain eminent figures such as Mozart and Newton were endowed with descriptors such as “genius” and “creative”. The people using these terms were wits such as Voltaire and Montesquieu, who ridiculed the Catholic Church at every turn.
To call someone “creative” was meant in part as a humble compliment (i.e. the way that Rush says that he has “talent on loan from God”), but also as an affront to the religious prigs of the day.
So why would a conservative use the term?
