Marco Rubio, Concert Promoter (Vanity)
Me | 6/13/2013 | Charles Reichley

Marco Rubio, Concert Promoter, learns a valuable lesson.
(Rubio is sitting at his desk, smug look on his face)
Secretary: "Mr Rubio, George is here to see you"
Marco: "Send him in"
George: "Well, everything is in place for the big concert. We sold out, you know"
Mark: "I knew we would. These groups aren't well-known, but they are very popular in the right circles, it's all a matter of proper marketing"
George: "Well, whatever it was, from day one the phones rang off the hook, and we had to upgrade the web server. Heck, we've been re-selling returned tickets in minutes, and we still had a waiting list almost as large as the actual audience"
Mark: "Well, that's how it should be. Maybe next time we'll get a larger stadium. But I think the exclusivity was part of the lure, knowing that there were a limited number of seats made people sign up early and commit."
George: "Anyway, just wanted to say good show. I hear the ticket-holders are already lining up out side the venue, and the doors don't open for another hour"
Marco: "Well, of course the general seating folks are there to get the best seats, but our pre-show entertainment is popular enough to draw them in as well."
George: "OK then, I've got to get moving, we still have some logistics to handle" (Leaves)
Marco: (to himself) "Tropical Paradise, here I come. I'm going to have so much money when this is over..." Secretary: "Mr. Rubio, Alex is here."
Marco: "Alex? Isn't he in charge of security? why isn't he at the stadium?"
Secretary: "He says it is urgent he speak to you, sir"
Marco: "Ok, send him in"
Alex: "Marco, we have a big problem"
Marco: "Better be important, I was just counting my money in my head...."
Alex: "Well you know that we haven't opened the venue yet, and there is a huge crowd of ticket-holders waiting in line.
Marco: "I heard that -- but shouldn't they be going in now?"
Alex: "Well, a good number of them did, but that's the problem. Seems the fence only goes halfway around the venue, because of a stream, and apparently a bunch of people who couldn't get tickets came over the stream, and are sitting in the stadium seats. So the premium holders are finding people in their seats, and the general section is already full, and I've still got 2000 ticket-holders outside waiting"
Marco: "What? What happened to security?"
Alex: "Well, remember, I wanted to hire a dozen more guards, but you said it didn't matter if a couple people slipped in, and thought everything would be OK."
Marco: "Well, clearly it isn't. Are you moving the people out?"
Alex: "Out, sir? Of course not."
Marco: "Why not?"
Alex: "Well, that wouldn't be fair."
Marco: "What do you mean, not fair? They didn't pay for tickets, and I've got people who paid and are waiting for those seats."
Alex: "But it isn't their fault we let them sneak in. And a lot of them are just kids brought in by their parents, and they expected a concert, and now that they are in seats, it would be cruel to suggest that they leave.
Marco: "If they didn't want to be treated cruelly, they should not have broken the law and illegally occupied the stadium"
Alex: "It's really your fault for not having enough seats. They couldn't get tickets, so what were they supposed to do? Anyway, there is thousands of them. There is no way I can find them all and get rid of them.
Marco: "Why not? Just ask them all for their tickets, and kick out the ones who don't have them."
Alex: "But that would be wrong -- the people who bought tickets will hate you for treating them like criminals, and the others will just say they lost their tickets, and we can't ask them for ID or anything. It wouldn't look good."
Marco: "Oh come on. They broke into the stadium. They are criminals. Who cares what they think?"
Alex: "They are mostly minorities, sir. Most of the ticket-holders are fairly wealthy folks, and you are asking me to remove nice poor people from the stadium just so the rich people can have their seats."
Marco: "It isn't about rich and poor, it is about right and wrong."
Alex: "And it would be wrong to make those people sit in the shadows, or make them go home, when they love the band as much as the ticket-holders, and went through all the extra trouble just to get to see them.
Marco: "Well, what do you propose we do -- sell them the seats?"
Alex: "God no. They don't have money, it's not like they are productive. I mean, I guess some of them are, so yes, we could just go through, and tell them the price of the seat they are in, and if they have the money, we could let them pay, but we'd have to waive the fees for most of them.
Marco: "I was kidding -- someone else already PAID for those seats, the people who followed the rules."
Alex: "Well, we could make a little more space in the standing section by taking out seats, and push the ticket-holders there. And then we could give refunds to those who can't get in."
Marco: "Why don't we kick out the ones who don't HAVE tickets, and then the ticket-holders could get in"
Alex: "I can't believe how racist and bigoted you are, sir. I've already explained, these people aren't criminals, they just took advantage of loopholes we allowed them to use, and what we need to do is let them out of the shadows, and let them pay for their seats, except most won't, and be done with it. Maybe we'll put together a plan for better security next time."
Marco: "Oh come on, that is a stupid idea. These people stole seats from paying customers who followed the rules. They are line-cutters, and have proven themselves to be of suspect moral character."
Alex: "I thought you, sir, of all people, would understand. This is just like your plan to let all the illegal immigrants stay in the immigration slots they stole from those who are still in their own country waiting in line, many of whom have spent good money to get through the process."
Marco: (silence)

My idea of what would happen if Marco Rubio took up a side business as a concert promoter.

As a person who works in music, I say: excellent analogy.
The only change I would make would be to say that with the profit from the show, the band(s) will be able to invest in making more appearances and in having a national tour....but then, when the profit is destroyed, oops...there goes those plans.

I have never seen a politician with so much promise, immolate himself in the shortest amount of time ever. Even McCain and Graham took years. Someone in his staff better seek treatment for him, or themselves, quickly.

It was weird, because I’m not a hardnose when it comes to immigration, and it amazes me how far to the wrong side of me he is.

When I heard him saying that opponents must not know any illegals, because if you did, you’d want them to stay, I thought — that is a great pitch for the million or so illegals who fell INTO illegality because of the difficulty of staying on the right side of immigration law, and if that was all the bill handled, I’d be a strong supporter.

In my analogy, those would be the people who were in line with tickets, but it turns out the tickets were issued incorrectly by the vendor, so they don’t meet the correct standards. And the poor guy who had tickets for tomorrow night, but showed up the wrong day after a 10-hour drive. I’d let that person in as an exception.

But his bill simply says “every person here illegally deserves to be left alone, and welcomed with open arms”. And I don’t see how we EVER stop illegal immigration if that is an acceptable position, because no matter what we do with the boarder, in 10 years there will be another 10 million people here illegally, if not more because of this bill, and the EXACT same excuse would apply to make them legal.

The argument seems to be “yes, we need a border, and we need laws, but if anybody manages to get over the border, it would be unfair to make them leave, unless they actually commit serious crimes while they are here”.

Frankly, if I lived nearby, I would be sorely tempted to pitch a tent in Rubio’s back yard, and argue that it would unfair to move me since I’m not committing any violent crimes.

Rubio, like Schumer, is a racist. All this “noble savage” nonsense that they spew is pure racism.

The promise was false. You need to understand that he started off by selling himself to the Cuban exile community as the son of exiles, i.e., people who fled Cuba as political refugees from the Castro tyranny.
Then, low and behold, it turns out his parents were no such thing - they left Cuba two or three years before Castro as regular immigrants.
Anyone who would lie that way - and then, when caught, say, “I don’t know when my parents came here” - has no principles of any kind and is capable of anything.

You are so disappointingly right! I feel taken in. I really REALLY hate to say this, but Marco Rubio is a white Republican 'Obama'!!! With the only exception being that most of us have a principled core and find it abhoringly difficult to give that up for the sake of supporting someone just to achieve Party loyalty.

Thank you. On matters like this I tend to be informed. I have been posting warnings about him for a while, but people wanted to believe in “ the Hispanic vote”.
