The Politics of (Obama) Scandals and getting the immigration bill to Obama’s desk
me | 6/13/2013 | SOL of course

Posted on 06/13/2013 5:51:36 AM PDT by sickoflibs

With all the revelations coming out at the same time about IRS misdeeds and the government spying on the media and ordinary Americans as well as the Benghazi deception it may seem inconceivable that Republicans would join Democrats in getting an Immigration Reform (aka amnesty) bill to Obama’s desk.

After all that would be a huge win and legacy item for Obama to have and some of these scandals like the IRS abuse and Benghazi seemed designed to alter the results of last year’s 2012 election in Obama’s favor.

But there is a theory I have that the amnesty wing of the GOP (Rubio, Grahamnesty, McCain) are using the noise over these scandals as a smokescreen cover to get an amnesty bill to Obama’s desk.

You won’t hear this on FNC because they would be part of it if it turns out true, in fact I first heard the idea from Chris Hayes and Matthews on MSNBC(they were speaking in hopeful terms).

The way it works is the House and Senate hold all these investigations giving the GOP amnesty group McCain, Rubio, Grahamnesty plenty of chances to howl and bark on TV about what Obama needs to do, BLA-BLA, etc, etc. Meanwhile they are working with Dems Schumer and Durbin and others to get an amnesty bill to Obama’s desk.

Exhibit A : Last night FNC reported very little on the Senate immigration bill vote to proceed 81 to 15 just that same day instead keeping GOP viewers focused on these scandals, mainly the NRA one with Snowden. Dems on the other hand played the vote up.

The other trick to getting a amnesty bill to Obama’s desk, a huge legacy item for him, is to have Obama lay low on the issue and let useful (GOP) idiots like Rubio and Rand do all the talking. And it’s important that Rubio tell Republicans that this is not a Democrat bill and that Obama won’t even like it, even though Obama will be grateful for ANY immigration bill that hits his desk.

Rubio is still repeating the lie that this bill will forbid illegals that comply from getting tax money benefits (for the 10 years) and instead require them to pay taxes. But we know from a GOP amendment that Dems killed that those Dreamers will be able to collect EITC from the IRS, which they can’t now,

Marco Rubio and Rand Paul seem determined to help get an amnesty bill to Obama’s desk, which in itself indicates that they are both thinking of running in 2016 (both are trying to court future Latino voters.)

But what about the 2016 GOP POTUS primary that starts in 2015? Won’t this kill their chances then? Here’s their plan (as I see it): That primary start is over two years from now (mid 2015) and the 2014 midterms is expected to be a boom for Republicans. The scandals, Obama’s failures (gun control) and the lack of a divisive GOP nominee on the ballot will enthuse Republican voters to vote and demoralize Dem voters, unlike 2012.

So say an amnesty (immigration reform) bill gets to Obama’s desk giving him his prized legacy item and then the GOP wins big in 2014 as with 2010, then Rubio and maybe Rand Paul will claim that their efforts worked, that all is at peace with Hispanic voters because of their leadership roles in crafting that ‘tough but fair’ immigration bill, and that they are really conservatives just waiting for a chance to vote GOP. Meanwhile Obama will continue to irk the GOP voters giving FNC plenty more material to use to make GOP primary voters forget GOP traitors. Think it's Unlikely?? Then how did McCain win HIS two GOP primaries in 2008 and 2010?

And in 2016 we will be lectured that Rubio(and or Rand) is the only one who can beat the Dem POTUS candidate and that has to be our #1 goal. After all, all those Hispanics will have switch parties by then, right?

Interesting take. I would go so far as to say that the Republicans will ballyhoo the increase in the voter rolls by Hispanics who will then vote to sabotage the primaries with an unelectable idiot. During the general, they’ll vote Democrat anyway.

The State-Run-Media already has their Talking Points, Hailing The Messiah, when Amnesty gets passed....they could care less about scandals (they’re not reported), but THIS will surely get 10 Million adult Illegals to the voting booths for 2014, and will cement the Progressive Agenda/Majority for the next 15-20 years (unless a needed Revolution and Purge comes first, which is highly un-likely due to the Indoctrinated Yewts of the past 40 years).

You remind me of 2008 with Mccain.

I am skeptical that any of these will cause Obama serious problems, sure it will help the GOP pick up seats in 2014, but as I said above that would give those like Rubio and Rand looking at 2016 all the more reason to want immigration to pass this year.

That way after 2014 election it will be forgotten by GOP primary voters (by 2016). Going like
'Hey, we passed immigration and won big. We got conservative hispanics back. Now we just need to pull together to save this country from those bad Dems'

"So say an amnesty (immigration reform) bill gets to Obama’s desk giving him his prized legacy item and then the GOP wins big in 2014 as with 2010..."

The second part's not going to happen. The GOP will lose seats (possibly even the House) if they allow amnesty to go through. All they have is turnout- amnesty will be the last straw, and Conservative voters will simply stay home. You can only be jerked around for so long by these people...

Historically, there's only one way to effectively deal with extortionists. Giving them what they want only makes them keep coming back for more.

Dem turnout will be suppressed and GOP turnout will be motivated. You will hear more and more how the IRS targeted ‘conservative’ groups and how we need to support GOP congressional candidates in 2014 to make sure it doesn't happen again.

FNC will continue to downplay immigration and focus on scandals to keep GOP voters buzzing.

Look at the posted threads here and comments to that effect.

As I said, McCain won his GOP primary in 2010 (as well as 2008) and he is as pro-amnesty as you get.

Now 2016???

I agree with much of what you suggest, but I have to disagree on your argument about GOP voters being motivated in 2014 if amnesty passes. I don’t care how much Lindsey Graham or the other frauds pretend to care about the Tea Party.

There is simply no point in continuing to defend a party that lacks basic self-preservation instincts.

I dont see Grahamnesty even pretending to care for the Tea Party, but their trick, and Rubio and Paul are better at it than the other two, is to get on TV every Sunday morning and bark and woof about Obama.
Mccain’s complains are usually centered around complaining that we havent attacked Syria yet, like that is our #1 issue.

Then in 2016 Rubio will tell us how Dems lied to him and deceived him on immigration, just like they did to Reagan,
and so we should be hopping mad at them (Dems) and work day and night to elect every GOP.

At the same time he will go to Hispanic groups in IN SPANISH tell them how much stuff immigration reform will get them, and how it was all his idea. too.

Heck, 'conservatives' bought the Ryan scam 10 year plan even thought it was not serious non-sense. Only much later some of his votes got some of them mad at him.

I can tell you (and my Senators, one of whom voted this abomination out of committee, Jim Moran) one thing, they will NEVER win reelection again!

Moran will lose his next election because both conservatives will oust him in a Primary and in the General Election, illegals will vote for the democrat, whomever it is and we already have one county in Ks where the Hispanic population is larger than the non-Hispanic population, thanks to Tyson Foods AND our government!

Right you are. I was so up sent upon leaning that the idiot voted in favor on to the next vote in the Senate, that Jerry Moran morphed into Jim Moran from VA!

Jerry Moran won in a tough primary agains another conservative, Todd Tihart, and those of us who voted agains Moran, knew we'd have to keep a close watch on him, lest he wander off the reservation, so as to speak. Should he vote aye again, he's toast! We don't need to try to point out what a genuine RINO he really is as he's telling us loud and clear.

If one wanted to know how the KS voters feel, his senior partner in the Senate, Pat Roberts, voted against the bill. He's up for reelection in 2014!

Now we have a good point to use against him in 2016!!!

” ‘Hey, we passed immigration and won big. We got conservative hispanics back. “

SICKENING! Conservative hispanics are AGAINST amnesty by at least 70%.
