33 While I am dead set against gays in the Boy Scouts, Hitler youth attacked gays. They were not gay. As to the other poster who spoke about gays being violent, here in NY we have had a lot of heteros attacking gays lately. While I am certain it has happened, it is certainly far less common for gays to attack heteros.

1900s - In Central Europe (Austria/Hungary/Germany) an informal hiking and camping society of young men emerged in the Wandervoegel (Wandering Youth) movement. Its goal was to revive the ancient Greek ideal of pedagogic pederasty. A substantial number of the Wandervoegel leaders were known homosexuals.

1922–1945 - The Wandervoegel movement became the core of the Hitler-Jugend (HJ, Hitler Youth). The HJ was the 2nd oldest paramilitary Nazi group (after the SA). Baldur von Schirach was appointed 'Reichsjugendführer' on 6/17/1933 and issued regulations after his inauguration which suspended or forbade existing all other youth organizations. The HJ was made up of the Hitlerjugend proper, for male youth aged 14 to 18 and the younger boys' section, Deutsches Jungvolk, for those aged 10 to 14. The Boy Scout movement and the Jünglingsverein, the German equivalent of the YMCA, were banned in Germany in 1934 and the HJ absorbed many of their members. The HJ appropriated many of Scouting’s activities, but changed its content and intention. The HJ were viewed as future "Aryan supermen" and were indoctrinated in anti-Semitism. One aim was to instill the motivation that would enable HJ members, as soldiers, to fight faithfully for the Third Reich. The HJ put more emphasis on physical and military training than on academic study. Some cruelty by the older boys toward the younger ones was tolerated and even encouraged, since it was believed this would weed out the unfit and harden the rest. The Evangelische Jugend, a Lutheran youth organization of 600,000 members, was integrated into the HJ on 2/18/1934 (The Lutheran Church was the state church of Germany at that time.). The "Gesetz über die Hitlerjugend" (law about the HJ) was passed on 12/01/1936 and required all eligible juveniles to be a member of the HJ or the BDM. Members had to be ethnic Germans, German citizens, and free of hereditary diseases.

The Bund Deutscher Mädel (BDM, League of German Maidens) was the girls' wing of the HJ. At 1st, the BDM consisted of 2 sections: the Jungmädel, or Young Girls League, for girls ages 10 to 14, and the League proper for girls ages 14 to 18. The BDM used campfire romanticism, summer camps, folklorism, tradition, and sports to educate girls within the National Socialist belief system, and to train them for their roles in German society: wife, mother, and homemaker. In 1938, a 3rd section was introduced, BDM-Werk Glaube und Schönheit (the Faith and Beauty Society), which was voluntary and open to girls between the ages of 17 and 21. It was intended to groom young women for marriage, domestic life, and future career goals. Ideally, girls were to be married and have children once they were of age, but importance was also placed on job training and education. The BDM instructed girls to avoid Rassenschande or racial defilement, which was treated with particular importance for young females. It also encouraged rebellion against parents.

Members of HJ and the BDM were lectured on the need to produce more children. Children born out-of-wedlock were not considered problematic. These and other behaviors taught by the HJ leadership led parents to complain that their authority was being undermined. In 1944, a group of parents complained to the court that the leaders of the BDM were openly telling their daughters to have illegitimate children. Public opinion attributed a great deal of sexual laxity to the members.

Membership in the HJ was seen as an important stepping stone for boys to future membership in the elite Schutzstaffel (SS, Protection Squadron or defense corps). By DEC 1936, HJ membership stood at just over 5 million. That same month, HJ membership became mandatory for Aryans. From then on, most of Germany's teenagers belonged to the HJ. By 1940, it had 8 million members. Most of the adult supervisors of the HJ were also Sturmabteilung (SA, Storm Detachment or Assault Division, also referred to as Brownshirts). The SA functioned as the original paramilitary wing of the Nazi Party. SA officers were almost exclusively homosexual. Ernst Röhm was a co-founder of the SA and later its commander. He was a notorious open homosexual. Adolf Hitler personally arrested Röhm and ordered the arrest of other SA leaders on 6/30/1934 in a plot to eliminate them, not because of their homosexuality, but as rivals to his consolidation of power. Historians later called this political purge, “The Night of the Long Knives.” They were all executed in prisons on 7/02/1934. Homosexual activity continued on into the war years when HJ boys frequently became victims of molestations at the hands of their SS tutors. The HJ was disbanded by Allied authorities as part of the denazification process after VE Day. Many adult leaders of the HJ were put on trial by Allied authorities, and Baldur von Schirach was sentenced to 20 years in prison. However, he was convicted of crimes against humanity for his actions as Gauleiter of Vienna, not his leadership of the HJ. The traditional scouting movement and YMCA were re-introduced in West Germany and Berlin after 1945. Today there are ~150 scouting associations in Germany.

1995 - Scott Lively’s and Kevin Abrams’ book, The Pink Swastika: Homosexuality in the Nazi Party, was published. Its theme was that “butch” homosexuals within the Nazi Party contributed to the extreme militarism and barbarism of Nazi Germany. The authors maintained that a key to understanding the cause of the German social collapse, which culminated in the atrocities of the Third Reich, was found in the conflict of Hellenic and Hebrew (Judeo-Christian) value systems. This war of philosophies, as old as Western civilization itself, pit the homoeroticism of the Greeks against the marriage-and-family-centered heterosexuality of the Jews. Although the Nazis included homosexuals in their persecutions (though at a much lower level than homosexualists contend), the homosexuals they persecuted were almost exclusively the effeminate members of the homosexual community (who they claimed were also very active in the communist party, and therefore political rivals) in Germany. Lively and Abrams also contended that much of the mistreatment in the concentration camps was administered by masculine homosexuals who despised effeminacy in all its forms. The book, and authors, have been subjected to heavy criticism from the homosexual lobby. Lively is an author, attorney, and activist, noted for his opposition to LGBTQ rights and his involvement in the ex-gay movement. He is the president of Abiding Truth Ministries, a conservative Christian organization located in Temecula, CA, and the former state director of the CA branch of the American Family Association. He is currently being sued in federal court in MA for inciting persecution of homosexuals during a Uganda speaking tour in 2009. The financial backer of the plaintiff is billionaire financier, 1-world government advocate, and financial donor to many left-wing causes, George Soros. The Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) designated Abiding Truth Ministries and The American Family Association as hate groups.

A couple of things.

The book you are quoting has been overwhelmingly discredited by historians. You could blame this on some sort of conspiracy, because thereis no other way to refute the historians.

More importantly, both of my parents are Holocaust survivors and my whole childhood was spent surrounded by other Holocaust survivors.

When this topic is brought up to them they laugh at the notion of homosexuality as being part of the core of Nazism. Just because homosexuality is bad does not mean it is to blame for things it has nothing to do with. The idea that a movement partially dedicated to wiping homosexuals out was homosexual in reality is a funny one.

If you believe that Nazis hated homosexuals and were homosexual, it sounds an awful like those on the left who claim that people against homosexuality are really afraid of homosexuals because of their own fears of their own homosexuality.
