The IRS and the drive to stop free speech

The unfolding IRS scandal is a symptom, not the disease. For decades, campaign-finance reform zealots have sought to limit core political speech through spending limits and disclosure requirements. More recently, they have claimed that it is wrong and dangerous for tax-exempt entities to engage in political speech.

The Obama administration shares these views, especially when conservative, small-government organizations are involved, and the IRS clearly got the message. While the agency must be investigated and reformed, the ultimate cure for these abuses is to unshackle political speech by all groups, including tax-exempt ones, from arbitrary and unconstitutional government regulation.

Beginning in March 2010, the IRS engaged in an unprecedented campaign of harassment against conservative groups, either through denials or delays in approving their tax-exempt-status applications, or through endless and burdensome audits.

In notable contrast, liberal and “progressive” organizations got approvals with remarkable speed. The most conspicuous example involves the Barack H. Obama Foundation, which was approved as tax exempt within a month by the then-head of the IRS tax-exempt branch, Lois Lerner. From media reports and firsthand accounts, we also know that the IRS disproportionately audited donors to conservative causes and leaked confidential tax information concerning conservative groups in violation of federal law.

This IRS politicization is not an isolated problem. It is an inevitable result of the broader efforts to regulate and, in fact, suppress political speech.

I am disturbed by how the government is openly prejudicing against conservative groups. We are allowed our free speech and the scandal with the IRS is just demonstrating how the government is stifling our God given rights.

A special prosecutor must be named and charges brought until every last one of the criminals are brought to justice, including those involved in the Bengazi and the IRS scandals.

If you want to have some fun mention “Citizens United” to a liberal friend and watch the reaction.

Daggers come out of their eyeballs, steam comes out of their ears, they levitate 6 inches out off the ground, and growl “Corporations are NOT PEOPLE!!!!!!!!"”

Public Employee Unions especially should have no business putting in money to help over see who their new boss will be.

“Corporations are NOT PEOPLE!!!!!!!!"”

No, they aren't. However, they are legal PERSONS. And it's a good thing they are. Otherwise it would be impossible to do business with them. If corporations weren't legal persons, able to make contracts, and to be sued for breaking them, you would find yourself dealing with one of the workers, who had no authority to bind the corporation itself. What happens when that person moves, dies, or retires? Only because that person was acting as an agent of the corporation, can the corporation be held bound by the contract.

Welcome to thug nation where in the absence of God what is just and right lays in the opinion of men. And now other men that are more powerful, uncivilized, unrestrained can easily take over and redefine what is just and rule by force, intimidation and riot...

...just like those bus loads of ACORN employee traveling to the neighborhoods of those wall street bondholders demanding the law be changed to ‘their’ favor. That was just the shape of things to come.

Since LBJ, who by the way lied with a manufactured incident to involve us in VietNam, negros have viewed the Constitution as an impediment and hurdle and have redefined everything that made this country right and just.

Now we live in negro nation where it just a matter of time when letter writers like me either get audited or necklaced with a burning tire around our neck.
