Remember those claims that 90% of Americans wanted the Senate background check bill to pass?:

I have previously noted my skepticism of claims that there were overwhelming support for the Senate gun control bill that was voted down about 10 days ago. Well, now there is another poll by the PEW Research Center that I think is much more accurate. It asks people whether they are happy that the Senate gun control bill was stopped. Apparently, both Republicans and Independents are generally happy that it was stopped. My guess is that Republicans should pay a lot more attention to what Independents and Republicans wanted than Democrats who wouldn't never have voted for the Republicans anyway. It looks to me that Republicans voted the way that there constituents wanted. So Republicans shouldn't really care that among all voters the poll showed support of 47 to 39 percent. They should look at the results by political affiliation.

I suspect that a large number of the "disappointed" and "angry" numbers are low information voters.

I’d like to see a poll to find out how many people think there aren’t any background checks at all...

Who would've thunk it!

The anti-second amendment crowd = the anti-first amendment crowd = the anti-constitution crowd = the pro-marxist crowd.

I wonder how many realize how pointless background checks really are.

Looks to me like they did in this case as did more than a few democrats. We may have to talk about that later. Or maybe not.

If a pollster would tell the people how this bills would really affect them the 90% will melt away like frost.

I wonder how many would agree to obtaining fedguv permission before other rights, like free association or expression are exercised?

I’m hoping the NRA changes Manchin’s rating to an F.

The only background check germane to a gun purchase is that of citizenship. Everything else is an infringement!

And BTW, following this Constitutional criteria, the current occupant of the White House would not qualify to possess a firearm.

Pollsters can say any damn thing they want. Who’s to prove otherwise? It’s no different than the rigged games at the carnival.

How will you feel when the nightly news idiot reports that 100% of people agree with Obama on an issue and no one questions that statement?
Get ready, we are almost there........

What SCARES THE CRAP out of the Democrats is that 22% of their voters DO NOT want more gun control. If those voters also own guns, which is probably the case, and are convinced that the government is coming for those guns, they WILL flip and vote Republican (at least many of them). That is why so many elected Democrats continue to oppose Obama in his attempt to grab guns.

Similarly for the Independents, who usually wind up voting Democrat, but won’t do that if ownership of their guns is threatened.

PEW/Washington Post survey, eh? That poll was also likely skewed in favor of the anti-Second-Amendment bill. Looks like control and anti-privacy policy bait to me.

Question: Do you want to not restrict the government from not stopping to not enforce background checks or not. Yes or no?

[[I wonder how many realize how pointless background checks really are.]]

Oh there’s a point to their background checks- to DENY law abidign citizens the right to own guns based on medical records or criminal records regarldess of how benign the record is- That is why they are zealously pushign htis ‘mental health’ portion of hte bill regarding ‘backgroudn checks’ to look for ANY evidence that soemoen used anti-anxiety, physchotic, depressant drugs at ANY pointi ntheir lives- if so= person denied right to buy guns and htsoe htat have guns and have used any of those ‘anti- medications will have their guns confiscated, just liek is happenign in NY and conn and other states-
