SACRAMENTO (CBS13) Thousands of people lined up for hours outside Cal Expo to buy ammunition. The line wrapped around the building for the first day of the two-day gun show.
Youve heard the early bird gets the worm. At the Crossroads of the West gun show it couldnt be truer.
We got here at 5:45 a.m., said one person. We were 64th and it took us 3.5 hours.
This is for my rifle, said an attendee. Ammunition is a hot commodity at Cal Expo.
I was planning on buying some ammunition around here but the line actually wrapped around the building, said Galen Miller....

Wow, used to watch my uncle drive horses at Cal Expo when my Dad was stationed at Beale. I weep for the freedom lovers in California. Oh, Nevermind, they’re all in Colorado, Utah, and Idaho now.
Is that why Colorado is banning guns, too?
Weird. Don't get it, unless it's meant to show contempt for Feinswine & Co., in which case I wholeheartedly approve. But haven't they heard of the internet? One can get all the ammo one needs there. And no lines!
Where on the internet?
“But haven’t they heard of the internet? One can get all the ammo one needs there. And no lines!””
Are you sure?..Go online and try to find 22lr at a decent price..
Check gunbot.net. I’ve made all my recent purchases through CTD, AmmoMan and BulkAmmo. I’ve got it coming out of my ears.

Well, that’s the thing. Ammo’s not cheap in this environment. Are the CalExpo prices fantastically low?
I found some great prices on bulk .22LR this past weekend online:
What’s killing me is that I’ve been trying to get my hands on a couple of cases of CCI Stingers. Checked too late on GunBot this morning; it was already sold out.
Let see, people in CA are buying ammo by the boat load, lined up around the buildings and you're crying?
Someone throw andy a hanky...
Thank you..I bookmarked it
“One can get all the ammo one needs there”
Please tell me where.
I have had spotty luck with Cabelas, but I have scored 750 rnds in the last 6 weeks.
I also bought .22 lr from ‘a guy in a van’ I found on Gun Trader.
But that’s about it.
It’s kind of like Craig’s list for firearms, so it can be hit or miss for your area, but every now and then you’ll find an excellent deal...
Keep your eye on armslist.com, gunbot.net, ammoman.com, bulkammo.com, cheaperthandirt.com and luckygunner.com. Check everyday. You’ll be able to find what you want.
In the past year or so, there was a panic run on ammo...Most people over-bought and have more than enough...It was only a matter of time until the prices and availability reach normal levels again.
Off
I’ve been tracking most of those sites...and yes, if I want to pay a $30 hazmat fee, I could get ammo from there.
But in my geographic area, its slim pickings. Last week I drove 70 miles round trip to pay $75/box for .22lr...and I’m seriously considering driving 160 miles round trip to buy from another guy.
We’ve got a gun show next week...and it would be really cool to be able to buy ammo without traveling, so I’ll probably be waiting in line with everybody else.
