It’s ironic that Newburgh is just a very few miles north of WestPoint Military Academy and NYMA.
It is even more ironic that Newburgh is adjacent to the humungous Fishkill Correctional Facility (Medium Security Prison). The folks who escape/get released from there would be happy to know the locals are unarmed.

When I first travelled to the area back in the 80's, I remember passing the prison on Rt.84 East and wondering which resort it was . . .linking it to the historic Catskill resorts like Grossingers and The Raleigh etc.
the Fishkill Correctional Facility is surrounded by mountains and beautiful green pastures, which distract from the razor wire topped fence surrounding the perimeter of the property.
