Now that Free Republic is back up and running, I am curious about what Freepers like best and what they miss most when Free Republic becomes not available. For instance, for me, it's often the first place to learn of an event -- sometimes even a half hour before Fox News gets something on the air -- or CNN. I specifically remember the shooting at the school in Virginia, and then there are the earthquakes. Just curious about what other Freepers like most about FR. Husband Quint says that if everybody donated a monthly fee charge to their credit card, Jim wouldn't have to go through the headache of having freepathons all the time and he'd have plenty of money. Do you agree?
I freaked out BIG time when the site didn’t come up the other day...I had to actually go to all the other sites and shop around for news stories....
It shows how important this one site is to all of us free loving patriots out there where we can get together and share stories of importance...which also makes it a target of the left!
It’s a hundred thousand eyeballs scanning the countryside for stories and comments interesting to us because of a shared world view.
The half-price chicken wings on Thursday nights?
I found out in the last few days, it’s my lifeline. Been bored stiff without it. Like I read a few days ago, there will be a baby boom in 9 months!
Welcome back. I sure missed FR being down.I come daily to FR for the real news stories and for the members comments. You all are like family to me.
When I see the site is down, I, immediately, think of Jim and John. We don’t like it being down for obvious reasons but they don’t like it 1,000 x’s more than us! Thank you Jim and John!
I like the hundred thousand eyeballs — I also greatly enjoy the recipe threads and the gardening threads. One of the things that my husband and I both appreciate is the advice we can get almost instantly when we have silly little problems going wrong with our computers. There are so many experts who are here at Free Republic. We also appreciate the Lutheran ping list. It truly is a great site. Thanks, Jim, for doing a great job here.
Having longtime friends, who I never met; Then actually meeting them.
Grassroots activism. Again, meeting people you 'knew' online.
Fast paced news plus the variety — everything from history to breaking news to space, science, technology, cooking, dogs and cats, archaeology. Everything is here! PLUS, we can post private replies.
That and the laughs!! The funny photos, the snarky comments (I sometimes read threads aloud at home to DH and others in my family).
Revolting Cat never ceases to crack me up. Just saw one of his posts and am glad he was resurrected with FR!!
Okay... it's all better now...
...so what were you saying?
I originally came here for the chicks, but I stuck around because of the huge financial rewards.
That the management continues to invest their time and sweat into keeping it up and running despite the overwhelming deluge of jackholes who were unloading on them via the Facebook page over the past two days.
FR is a firehose of news and information, with perceptive and funny comment from fellow conservatives. What’s not to like?
I also like the hundred thousand eyeballs, but what I most appreciate is the historical context provided by the wiser and more experienced Freepers:)!
FR serves chicken wings? How did I miss that?
FR is a lifeline for the news junkie. As a text-primarily feed, it was the only reliable source of US news in Afghanistan (it slid through the narrow bandwidth pipe like a champ).
Now, it will likely be the best place to find indicators, signs, and portents.
To the gentlemen running the site, consider virtualization with regularly mirrored offsite storage.
Cheers,
We’re all glad you’re back,
get a beer!
Breaking news...
But it’s not breaking news the way the networks see it, which is what is important to them. It’s breaking news the way the people see it.
Oh, and technical/construction/repair/rebuild type issues. If you have a question, there is someone on FR who can answer it! This website probably has more experts who come here than any other site in the world.
