Yeah, we made something similar, if not the same as your hamburger/potato/gravy meal.:)

I still fix “vintage cuisine” from time to time. When my much younger brothers visit they always request this or that meal from our childhood. Their wives have finally got over being appalled and have even become fond of some of them. Of course, they have never said “how do you make this?” (like there is a recipe for these meals, lol)

So I guess when I die, my brothers will be s.o.l. and have to rely on memories.

Yep, we took hamburger meat and browned it with salt, pepper and a few other seasonings. Grated the potatoes onto the top and let them steam. Put some shredded cheese on the top. Just like the hamburger helper you buy at the store. Add a bit of flower and water or milk, and you have the gravy.

ah! I loved this as a child, asked for it as my birthday meal, and regularly make it still. my dad had a wwII navy mess name for it :)
