Down the Road a Piece is a boogie-woogie-style jam written by Don Raye. In 1940, a version was put to vinyl by the Will Bradley Trio that went on to be a Top Ten hit in the US. The song was subsequently recorded by a variety of jazz, blues, and rock artists.
British band Manfred Mann -a beat/R-n-B group- released their cover version of it in 1964, on the album 'The Five Faces of Manfred Mann', a critically-acclaimed record that has been called "one of the great blues-based British invasion albums; it's a hot, rocking record that benefits from some virtuoso playing as well".
Me? I love 'em- and this early stuff blows 'Blinded by the Light' away, imho...

Heh. Of all people. Angel Station is one of my most favorite albums. (I like his stuff from the 60s, too)

Oh wow I was talking to my brother the other day about that, how they got whole albums on Youtube and even whole movies. How is that legal? I mean anyone can download that stuff and covert it to any kind of file, there’s even a website that will convert these album videos to MP3 like this one....

I just find it odd that the RIAA goes after websites like Piratebay and sues the hell out of people yet here is Youtube with the same amount of music probably more even as just about every song I look up is on there. And even if a person does not intentionally download they still are because the video is stored in their temp files.

I’m surprised anyone remembers this version when Ian Stewart’s band recorded the definitive cover around the same time.

Will Bradley (born Wilbur Schwictenberg) and his Trio, plus the incomparable Freddie Slack on piano; "Down the Road Apiece" is a reet, voot, solid hummer--and the follow-up to Beat Me, Daddy, Eight to the Bar, from the early fall of '40.

I have the 78s. Matter of fact, I have a huge collection of piano Boogie Woogie. Ammons is my favorite player.

I have “Beat Me, Daddy” on a 78, but it seems they cut part of it out so it could fit on both sides of the record.

Superb, FH... I also like Commander Cody’s version of ‘Beat Me Daddy’, it’s the b-side of the Hot Rod Lincoln 45

A song obviously inspired by "Rockin' Pneumonia" as well as the Sputnik and Explorer satellites and the 1957-1958 Asian flu epidemic was Lonnie Miley's
Satellite Fever and the Asiatic Flu (1958). I prefer Paul Perryman's version, but I can't find a decent recording of it on the Internet.
