It’s pretty obvious by now that Obama actually wants to go over the so-called “Fiscal Cliff.” Occam’s Razor tells us that’s the only possible conclusion. Let’s run it down:
1. Even before the election, Obama said he would veto any legislation to avoid the fiscal cliff that didn’t include a tax hike on the “top 2%.” It used to be 1% but that changed over time for some odd reason. Probably because the number doesn’t really matter. It’s just a metaphor for “millionaires and billionaires” who, incidentally, aren’t the only ones who will see a tax rate hike on the 2%. It will include people who aren’t millionaires and billionaires and actually create most of the new jobs in this country. But again, that’s not the point here. Obama is just tapping into the population’s envy of the rich. At best the tax hikes will raise about 80 Billion dollars a year and the yearly deficit alone is over 1 Trillion dollars. Insisting on tax hikes that won’t even scratch the deficit isn’t an economic or fiscal argument. It’s demagoguery. Conversely, taking an additional 80 Billion out of the private sector will hurt the economy, so insisting on a measure that will hurt the economy and do nothing to address the fiscal situation leads to one conclusion: Obama doesn’t want a deal made.
2. If we go over the fiscal cliff – here’s exactly what that means, by the way – Obama gets exactly what he and his progressives have wanted all along. Higher taxes on everyone and more dependence on government as the economy slips once again into a recession. The fiscal cliff will create the kind of economic destruction that Obama and his ideological brethren have always thought was needed in order to usher in “real change” or the proverbial “fundamental transformation” of America. The game is to let the fiscal cliff happen, blame Republicans for it, and then use that as leverage to expand the welfare state to heights never imagined. It’s Cloward-Piven on steroids.
3. When Obama has been pressed to provide a plan to avoid the fiscal cliff, he has referred to his last budget as the plan. This is the same budget that was defeated in the Senate 99-0. He knows this isn’t a plan. It’s already dead. Pretending this is his plan is proof that he has no plan and that he doesn’t actually want a deal. He wants the fiscal cliff to happen.
There is no other explanation for Obama’s actions on this matter. When you pare down what he’s saying, the only thing he has proposed is a tax hike that he knows Republicans won’t go for because the hikes will hurt the economy. He’s not negotiating in good faith.
I dare anyone to provide any evidence whatsoever that Obama is interested in reaching a deal on the fiscal cliff. And no, his words are not evidence. He’s a liar. Show me some action, any action, that indicates he is looking to cut a deal.
I’ll wait.
“Problem is, Obama wants it. It gives him and Democrats what theyve dreamed of all along. Higher taxes, more job losses, a gutted national defense, and more wealth redistribution because of the resulting increase in unemployment, and they get to blame it all on the Republicans”
2 years is like forever ago... the republicans won’t get the blame for a sucky economy.... Obama will. (IMO)
Raising the tax rates strengthens Obama’s hand and lets him have whatever he wants, and basically breaks and demoralizes the conservatives and Tea Party once and for all.
We either fight this and call the bluff, or fold and close up shop. Let Obama deal with the country in recession for the next 4 years. Listen, it will suck anyway as all these regulations sap the soul and freedom out everything else we know and love.
Let Obama be responsible for tax hikes on the middle class because he isn’t willing to deal.... I dare ‘em
It’s MARSHALL Dillon, MARSHALL not MARTIAL..... ;)
You said it all. And the ship is definitelly going down.
Six tax rates, ranging from 10% to 35%, have been in place since 2003, the Bush tax rates:
10%,
15%,
25%,
28%,
33%, and
35%.
Tax rates will revert automatically to the following pre-2003 levels unless new legislation is passed:
15%,
28%,
31%,
36%, and
39.6%
“Extending” the Bush tax rates is not the way to go, it’s just the way the Democrats have framed the argument. Nor is the way to go allowing the rates to revert.
Republicans should pass brand new rates:
8%,
12%,
20%,
25%, and
35%
Only the highest rate would remain the same as the current level. All other rates would be reduced below their current levels.
Let’s see how eager Obama and the Democrats really are to cry about “helping the middle class during an economic recovery” or demanding that the “rich pay their fair share”.
He knows who most of the public will blame.
LOL... I like that logic and it is probably easier to sell than a flat tax with a consumption tax.
But for conservatives to buy it you got do the entitlement reform or your pushing us further into debt.
Obamanation style Communism File.
Hey, we were talking about taxes, don't go moving the goalposts on me! :)
You forget that if the money is cut off, a large number of the 47% will not be focused on the Republicans, but on the Democrats, no matter what the MSM says. They want their money *now*, and don’t care how they get it.
Add to that many Democrats have no staying power at all, and will jump ship when put under pressure.
But if the Republicans hold fast, their core will not be angry with them.
It will be interesting to see, and neither victory nor defeat is guaranteed either way.
We'll just have to agree to disagree about that because there is no evidence whatsoever "focus" will "shift." Show my why the looters would shift focus away from the Republicans when all you're going to hear about in the media is how evil the Republicans are. I think you are underestimating the depth of the blame the 47% looters will place on the Republicans. They will naturally polarize the two sides into "Dems = Good" vs "Reps = Bad" and keep it that way, with the press supporting them all the way.
Also, the Republicans will not hold fast. There are always enough cowards that can be peeled away. As for the Dems lacking staying power, they've done a pretty good job of sticking together for the past two years. When was the last time we peeled Representatives or Senators from their side lately? I fail to see why that would stop when they've been so richly rewarded for it.
It is so obvious that the goal is to destroy the GOP as an opposition force, either by co-optation or outright extralegal means. The GOP name has been turned into a curse word, all under the radar by Bill Maher, John Stewart, SNL, and other “not serious” very serious people. And that’s just among whites. The black media is functioning with regard to Republicans as der Sturmer did to Jews. It’s only the fact that most black and Hispanic media is completely invisible to whites that the incitements to riot and even to genocide are permitted to go on.
The poor dumb lambs! They do not understand what they are dealing with. They are still in a la la land of “proposals” and “negotiations”, when they are facing all out war, with their political and perhaps their actual liquidation as the goal.
