The Church should have disciplined them 50 years ago. I told all my children at an early age: No Jesuit school ever.
As a beneficiary of 8 years of Jesuit education I disagree. While the opinions of many of the Society are controversial and were as well when I was at Fordham, I was never indoctrinated. As a matter of fact I was taught and encouraged to think and evaluate and conclude. One anecdote. Some years ago I attended a Fordham Columbia FB game. I made a politically incorrect comment on one of Fordham’s ends about his height and a Columbia fan chastised me for not being politically correct. I responded that I had a Jesuit education and didn’t have to be politically correct because I was taught how to think not what to think like the Ivies. Joseph O’Hare SJ the school’s Pres. came over and made a point of shaking my hand. Also, I attended several different grad schools of CUNY after Fordham and found myself far better prepared for the work than most of my fellows. As to the Coulter invite. It appears the College republicans withdrew the invite prior to McShane’s comments though there may have been some backchannel communication from McShane’s office. It appears Coulter was a second choice because George Will wanted too high a fee.
