Why won’t Jesuits defend Catholic doctrine?

Within a few days Father Joseph McShane S.J. the president of New York’s Fordham University called Ann Coulter “too hateful and needlessly provocative” as he ordered that she be disinvited to speak at Fordham.

Then he had no trouble approving “ethicist” Peter Singer as a speaker. Singer is a man who promotes the murder of children he would consider “defective” within the first two years of their lives.

According an article in “First Things” magazine, “Singer has spent a lifetime justifying the unjustifiable. He is the founding father of the animal liberation movement and advocates ending “the present speciesist bias against taking seriously the interests of nonhuman animals.”

He is also a defender of killing the aged (if they have dementia), newborns (for almost any reason until they are two years old), necrophilia (assuming it’s consensual), and bestiality (also assuming it’s consensual).”

“..As the founder of a movement elevating animals to equality with humans [Singer] has cheapened human life. He is guilty of promoting the murder of the sick and elderly in the name of convenience.

He is guilty of promoting the murder of “defective” children to satisfy of his own definition of who has a right to life. He is guilty of promoting necrophilia which is nothing less than Satanic and he is guilty of promoting bestiality – a sin of the gravest degree that certain makes Satan proud.

Nevertheless, somewhere lodged in his own sick mind, Father McShane has determined that the purely political rhetoric of Ann Coulter would be more harmful to his students than the words of the monster Singer. Coulter is therefore not acceptable as a topic for free discussion at Fordham.

The worst thing about Singer is his endearing nature. He is a perfect earthly representative of Satan…

Good question. 4 years at a Jesuit University, chosen because it was supposedly a Catholic College, did more to harm my faith than grow it. I always say that my faith survived 4 years of Catholic education. Very sad.

As a beneficiary of 8 years of Jesuit education I disagree. While the opinions of many of the Society are controversial and were as well when I was at Fordham, I was never indoctrinated. As a matter of fact I was taught and encouraged to think and evaluate and conclude. One anecdote. Some years ago I attended a Fordham Columbia FB game. I made a politically incorrect comment on one of Fordham’s ends about his height and a Columbia fan chastised me for not being politically correct. I responded that I had a Jesuit education and didn’t have to be politically correct because I was taught how to think not what to think like the Ivies. Joseph O’Hare SJ the school’s Pres. came over and made a point of shaking my hand. Also, I attended several different grad schools of CUNY after Fordham and found myself far better prepared for the work than most of my fellows. As to the Coulter invite. It appears the College republicans withdrew the invite prior to McShane’s comments though there may have been some backchannel communication from McShane’s office. It appears Coulter was a second choice because George Will wanted too high a fee.

Why won’t Jesuits defend Catholic doctrine? Because they are atheists, Marxists, and homosexuals.

Many years ago, the Jesuits wedded themselves to the idea that being educated was the most important thing, and they wanted to be connected to the literati. In order to do that, they had to jettison any notions that would not comport with the 'morality' of that group. That's one reason why the Jesuits have seemed to split with the Church on most, if not all, of her teachings on sexuality. So they're squishy, at best, or downright hostile at worst to the Church's teaching on abortion, fornication, and homosexuality.

Jesuits, like their 'educated' friends believe that one should be able to do whatever one likes, as long as it feels OK. The Jesuits push the notion of 'conscience as King', and teach that as long as YOU feel good about something, it's not sinful, no matter what the Church teaches. It's the perfect 'moral system' for the self-obsessed.

I have always wondered about that myself. How do they get these statistics on the demographics of the vote?

Someone pulls the numbers out of a hat and say OK these are the numbers for today....they think we are that stupid. For years I have wondered in distance past voting, they would call a winner when thousands of military haven’t been counted and at sometime during the counting, it would be mentioned military ballots still aren’t counted...that goes back 30 years....but we have a mostly democrat winner...
