I have a great friend from the Phillipines that once told me when a water buffalo is to be slaughtered for meat by a rural farmer that he must remove the beast to a remote location from his farm for butchering or the other beasts would gather together becoming beligerent and agressive for days if they were in the vicinity of the butchering.
interesting. I guess that explains the camps and gulags being in remote places. It did work for Germany and the Soviets after all.
