Sorrow about to Fall

I happened to look up a ELO song for something, and I noted that the lyrics seemed to echo (completely unintentionally) the situation in our country right now.

My “interpretation” appears in (parentheses).

Sorrow About To Fall by Electric Light Orchestra – “Balance of Power” (Ironic album title)

There's a silence in the city, there's nobody around (The “City” is Washington DC, where there a few conservatives left)

And everyone that we knew moved to higher ground (People disengaging, losing hope)

There's a shadow hanging overhead, it lingers there alone (Obama & Socialism)

Changing all we ever knew, the changes start to show (Will the Great Country that so many thousands of soldiers died for exist anymore?)

There's a sorrow about to fall There's a sorrow about to fall

There's a new sound in the wires, and ears are to the ground (We all are just waiting for the other shoe to drop; what’s next?)

And everything that once was ours has slowly turned around (The USA used to be Of the People, For the People; who is it for now?)

Something happened to the seasons, started falling with the rain (Thousands of drops of water/progressivism over the last 80 years)

And something changed forever, we gotta find a way (It is already over, but people still hope – right?)

There's a sorrow about to fall There's a sorrow about to fall

There's people in the photographs, but they all had to run They went away to somewhere, beyond the setting sun (The Founding Fathers and other great statesmen – they now only exist as images on the walls, their hopes and dreams for the future destroyed)

There's a sorrow about to fall There's a sorrow about to fall There's a sorrow about to fall There's a sorrow about to fall

Link goes to the original, check it out - it's a good (but sad) song.

I am sad about what is happening, and I see no way to stop it. So very sad.

Incidentally—just caught a very nice hour-long retrospective of Jeff Lynne called “Mr. Blue Sky.” It’s on occasional rotation on the channel Palladia. Hardly touched on his personal life at all, just focused on the man as a musician, which I prefer. Worth a look if you can catch it.
