Glens Falls Hospital announced Tuesday morning it is eliminating 29 jobs and reducing five other employees to part-time status, as part of a cost-reduction program being blamed on declining reimbursement levels and other economic challenges.
We deeply regret the pain and anguish this difficult decision will cause for so many of our co-workers, but sustaining the fiscal health of Glens Falls Hospital so it can and will continue to ensure quality health care for the southeastern Adirondack region is our paramount responsibility, said Glens Falls Hospital President and CEO David Kruczlnicki, in a prepared statement.
Tuesdays announcement comes less than a week after Kruczlnicki outlined the hospitals fiscal crisis in an interview with The Post-Star. At that time, he said the hospitals bottom line swung from a profit to a loss in the third quarter, when the hospital lost nearly $1.8 million.
Kruczlnicki said at the time the hospital was still in the black, year to date.
He also said the hospital had closed a 12-bed unit on the third floor that had been used for overflow from the facilitys intensive care unit. That resulted in about 33 employees nurses, aides and secretaries being moved to other areas of the hospital, he said...

We were supposed to hire three new people in our department to cover an new addition in the hospital. HR decided this week to just spread the people we do have in order not to do the new hires. I’m just glad to have a job.
