As if there will be enough pro-conservative votes to, actually, counter whatever the left does, between now and four years from now! You are living an “optimistic fantasy”! The GOP is dead, and U.S. conservatism is dying! It’s over for everything non-leftist, until and unless there’s a total collapse of “everything leftist”, in the U.S. and worldwide! Prove me wrong, please!
But we have to die trying.
And yet, just 2 years ago, there were enough conservative votes to decisively take the House (with enough of a margin to retain it after this fiasco) and make a legitimate run at taking the Senate (which would have required a staggering +11 margin).
Today sucks. I get that.
But 2 years in politics is a long time. You fight one election at a time.
Romney lost light night because he failed to do as well as McCain -- let that sink in. Obama shed over 10% of his own 2008 total, so Romney would have won if he had merely retained all of the McCain votes. The people who stayed home -- rather than vote for someone who could pass for a mainstream Democrat less than 30 years ago -- were the margin of defeat, not some insurmountable horde of freeloaders.
