According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the unemployment rate rose from 7.8% to 7.9% for October.
The number of unemployed in the US rose from 12,088,000 in September to 12,258,000 in October. An increase of 170,000. The good news is that non farm payrolls increased by +171,000.
Of course, there are the defense contractor layoffs that the Obama Administration asked to be postponed until after the election, such as Lockheed. And there are job losses that will occur after the election (unless overturned) of 887,000 annually from EPA regulations going into effect (according to Senator im Inhofe, Ok). And I dont even want to think about Sequestration and the resulting military cuts.
And the duration of unemployment 27 weeks and over rose to 40.6%.

Hopefully the Romney campaign is blasting the airways with this in the swing states.
On the bright side, I’ll be able to scoop gallons of pure good old leaded gasoline off the surface of the lake. LOL
Lockheed is planning on laying off about 123,000 after the election.

Bump
If the fledgling Romney administration is unwilling to roll back the last four years’ worth of EPA regulations on coal and everything else, or if they are unable to due to ‘rat resistance in Congress (likely), it doesn’t matter what else they do — their attempts to revive the economy are going to fall flat.
Energy is the lifeblood that nourishes and powers an industrial society. And coal is one of the pillars upon which the strength of our society stands.
We need MORE coal-fired plants, coal mines, etc. Without same, we can’t grow. It’s really that simple .
Romney said yesterday that one high priority will be to review every single regulation implemented during the Obama administration and eliminate each one that kills jobs. A good start if he follows through.
