I doubt very much that the rioting would move much beyond the inner city. MUY mobs aren’t disciplined or organized. They involve people whose average IQ is about 85 and who are heavily outnumbered.
So, these people are going to storm suburban subdivisions? No, a couple of riflemen could kill so many of them that they would be running away in disorder. In Texas, our subdivisions have lots of riflemen. With an outbreak of rioting, the MUY areas would be probably be effectively quarantined by LEOs, Guardsmen, and regular army soldiers.
Too many people are looking for an apocalypse. We are going to have hard times, but I think that food, water, medicine, and other items needed for comfortable living will be the main issue for those who don’t live in MUY central (or next door). I worry more about the government than the MUYs.
Still, it doesn’t hurt to be zeroing in your long guns and practicing with handguns.

I will add that folks need to make sure all their children are trained on weapons as well.A 10 year old can carry and shoot an M-1 carbine.Its up to the parents to teach them to hit the target.

Exactly. When the consequences are so dire/severe you have to start paying attention even if the chances for that situation are very very remote.
We are slowly (but quicker now) stockpiling food, water, and ammunition. I live in a town with a lot of active duty and retired military. Already have a plan (as in map study and personal recon) to close off our suburban neighborhood (4 road entrances) to non-resident traffic. Lots of good cover, places for OPs to provide the hidden/real punch behind a roadblock. There will be no flash mobs, no looting in our area.
I know there is enough firepower within a stones throw of my place to do this. Aside from the hardware we have other support gear including radios, foul weather gear, optics, etc. Several of my neighbors have done multiple tours in the sandbox setting up checkpoints, running convoy security, running intel and spec-ops teams. We will be secure.
You guys are squared away- it’s a little more far flung wild west here but we got cattle, water and woods.
Not just governments but most major banks are broke and working on the edge. Most of the largest Mega Banks have derivatives exposures that are 40-50-60 times their total assets, so what happens if Europe does collapse (which is fairly likely) causing them to loose just a modest percentage on those derivatives? Personally I expect something much like the well I think that we are in for something like the collapse of Argentina ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7yerKMQc7-w&feature=grec_index )but on a global scale.
When you add in the fact that their is a growing concern for social unrest regardless of which way the election goes, the next few months will be like walking a mine field.
Recent events show (Flash Mobs, OWS, etc) we have a large entitlement minded population that is violent prone and armed. I think that during a collapse you will see many small businesses wiped out by flash mob looting, and once started it will quickly spread to rape, robbery and murder for murder sake. You will see what I call ‘pocket pogroms’ and if you ain’t ‘Amish’ you better not be around when they come.
Many of these ‘yutes’ will think no more about killing you than most people think about stepping on a roach. That will be the test of many. Most preppers I know are Christian people and they will hesitate to do what they might have to do to stop the ‘yutes’. On the other hand the ‘yutes’ won’t think twice nor lose a minute of sleep, in fact they will smile and laugh about it.

Now today I got a the following two complaints about using this quote:

And from DCBryan1: “I concur: adding fantasy quotes to serious subjects dilutes the seriousness and credibility of the topic.”
I for one think you can find core truths in many places, some even in very unusual places, but that doesn’t take away from their truth.
For those that don’t understand the point how about if I ‘translate’ this quote:

So tell me is this not a true statement of what happens to people once placed under such stressful conditions? You be surprised how many people don’t realize the transformations that can take place under such conditions. And because of their ignorance many won’t even live long learn.

For those of you who haven’t started already it’s time to prepare almost past time maybe. You needed to be stocking up on food guns, ammo, basic household supplies like soap, papergoods, cleaning supplies, good sturdy clothes including extra socks, underwear and extra shoes and boots, a extra couple changes of oil and filters for your car, tools, things you buy everyday start buying two and put one up.
As the LDS say “When the emergency is upon us the time for preparedness has past.”

As I said, I think it is likely they will in fact cordon off the MUY areas. But, if they don’t, for the most part it will be a turkey shoot outside of the inner city. We don’t need the LEOs or anyone else to finish a mob.
Then comes the rioters spilling into the suburbs.
Then comes full-blown chaos when the rioters realize that the cops alone can't contain them.
Then come the beatings, rapes and murders. In the open. In broad daylight. At heavily trafficked intersections."
Only those 'preppers' who live in suburbs near metro areas worry about this. If something like this were ever to come, I'll be watching it on the teevee until the news signal from Los Angeles or New York conks out.

A 28 ga shotgun is pretty tame for a slightly built shooter and is also a .55 cal weapon. Almost no one sells 28ga slugs but I’ll bet you could work up a serviceable load with.54 cal ball.
28ga buckshot would be a pretty decent defensive round, IMHO

Do not underestimate street gangs. They are organized, have heirarchies, demand total loyalty and obedience to orders, are armed (even if not necessarily good shots), and might work together for plunder. This MUY contingent would not be a disorganized mob, and if their leaders are any good, could be a pain in the butt compared to an amatuer flash mob.
If they make it out of the cities, they will be lean, battle hardened, and organized. Better to overestimate their capabilities than think they will be easy.
In combat, target the leadership from a distance, and anyone else who seems important by their actions. If lots of people are referring to them, they're likely important to the group.
Rioters isn’t the problem.
The military moving in and protecting the rioters against the militia will be.
Clinton had 25% plus of the military willing to open fire on Americans already in 2000. I think it’s worse now.
Look for O using any event, maybe even a false-flag WMD event, as the excuse to clamp down.
Yep, Detroit, Chicago, LA look like war zones already.
Communications will be out or subverted, most any internet services belong to O already. He’s even moved onto the ham radio folks.
