When President Obama addresses the Democratic National Convention later this week, one thing he is surely to tout is the stimulus he passed in the first year of his presidency. In September of 2009 the President said of the American Reinvestment Act, its about creating jobs that will make a lasting difference in our future. Nearly 3 years after spending over $800 billion dollars, growth is still anemic, unemployment remains above 8 percent, and the American Public is growing restless. One of the fatal flaws of the stimulus, besides its gross overstep in government expenditure, was that it went to projects, relief efforts, failed businesses, that have had almost no impact on private sector job creation. A letter from the Chairman for the Committee on Education and the Workforce said:
"Multiple news sources have reported that in September 2009 DOL spent $495,000 in stimulus funding to hire a public relations firm, McNeely, Pigott, & Fox Public Relations, LLC (MP&F), to promote Job Corps existing and new training initiatives in high-growth and environmentally friendly career areas. Despite the fact that these funds were made available as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Actlegislation President Obama said was critical for immediate job creationan examination of public records show that the contract that resulted in the advertisements on MSNBC created no jobs. Upon further review of public records, we have found that DOL, since 2009, spent almost $2 million on public relations services from MP&F, resulting in the creation of one job in the last reported quarter."
This letter makes plain this administrations lack of credibility when it comes to the creation of jobs of private sector jobs. They will spend enormous amounts of federal money and have nothing to show for it except billings and receipts from PR firms.
Q. Where are the jobs?
A. Exported to other countries is bad trade deals. Next Q
Q. Then how can we get the jobs back?
A. Vote out those that voted for these deals.
Obama is reaping what he sowed. The jobs he created were temporary and are now disappearing. Welcome to Economics 101 Mr. President...
