Chick-fil-A, Papa Johnís and In-N-Out Burger: Spare us your fast-food righteousness
The Washington Post's Post Local ^ | August 13, 2012 | Petula Dvorak

Posted on 08/13/2012 8:28:39 PM PDT by 2ndDivisionVet

Since when does serving up junk food give someone a license to preach?

Politics and all things fried, fatty and fast are becoming intertwined to the point of absurdity.

We’ve got the Papa John’s pizza guys weighing in on the health-care debate, while the burger slingers out west at In-N-Out can’t serve up a cheeseburger without a Bible verse.

The craziness of fast-food commentary on social issues became obvious to me when I stumbled into a totally earnest discussion at a party last week by a bunch of Washingtonians who personally support the right to same-sex marriage, but are also wickedly addicted to Chick-fil-A sandwiches.

This is the stuff of serious dilemma inside the Beltway.

“I don’t know what to do about it. I mean, I guess I can go through the drive-thru where no one will see me,” one woman said.

“It doesn’t matter if anyone sees you there. It’s about helping them fund hate groups by buying their hate-chicken,” another responded.

“Have you had that banana cream pie milkshake?” someone asked.

And the entire room dissolved into a quiet moment of personal ecstasy, the kind that ends with a head-shake of loss, grief and sorrow...

Translation: Christians and conservatives are winning this part of the culture wars, somehow. We were assured by the Human Rights Campaign and ACT-UP! that Chick-fil-A would fold like a dollar store beach chair under Rosie O'Donnell's posterior! I wish they'd just go away!

So wait, leftists as a whole push immoral, hateful, destructive, enslaving, anti-religious, anti-family, anti-responsibility changes on everyone - and that’s OK.

Some dude comes out against gay marriage, and another wants to put bible verses on his cups - and that’s NOT OK.

I love how these imbeciles think.

SCREW liberal supporting companies like Miller Lite that sponsored a homosexual leather orgy in San Fransicko with THIS anti-Christian poster and included a sado-maso pervert show on the sidewalk by a Catholic church.

The culture war is on and too many liberals have been riding the gravy train will spitting on the faces of the silent majority in this nation.

But his remarks on the subject created a furor and divided the nation yet again along political lines. Conservatives flocked to chicken appreciation day to voice their support for Cathy, creating huge lines at Chick-fil-As across the country. Gay rights activists answered with a Chick-fil-A kiss-in.

Revisionist history. The HOMOSEXUALS declared plans to stage a "same-sex kiss-in" protest at the restaurants.

Supporters of traditional marriage and those who simply support a right to FREE SPEECH on such matters staged a PRE-EMPTIVE buy-cott to occur PRIOR to the planned kiss-in.

The Lavender Mafia's plot backfired on them as their protest effort was blown out by MASSIVE support.

Well, I could point out that the mere ability to memorize some lines and regurgitate them in front of a camera would not seem to bestow a license to preach either. Think about it lib lurkers.

However, I think that's just fine - it is called free speech, seems I read about it somewhere in a paragraph marked #1... I don't agree with the KKK nor the ACLU, but I don't want to live in a Country where either couldn't exist.

But over at Papa John’s Pizza, CEO and founder John Schnatter, a Mitt Romney fundraiser, declared last week that the company would raise the price of its pies if health-care reform stands.

INCREASED costs passed onto consumers? Why, I've NEVER heard such a concept. At least outside of economics courses. Gay-supporting swishy cocktail parties don't concern such matters when Journolistas are present. < /sarc >

No, it seems that there’s something about the artery-clogging food barons that gives them some sort of calling to publicly weigh in on controversial, political topics.

Wrong again. When the head of American Apparel isn't sexually harassing women, he is pushing corporate advocacy for amnesty for cheap illegal immigrant labor and for the norming of homosexuality.

I had never been to a Chick-fil-A before this started. I found the one in my town and the spicy chicken sandwich is just super - I’ve been there twice now. I’m in Texas and the temp. is about 100 every day so it’s too hot for me, at my advanced age, to drive there often. As soon as the weather cools, I’m having that sandwich at least once a week. I also had the peach milkshake and it was swell.

I made myself drive there regardless of the heat, on homo demonstration day and they didn’t show up - probably due to our town being full of Texas Bubbas.

The chicken is just good and I’m glad I got to know that place.

Hey, you booger eating moron! First and foremost, Papa Johns is a business, employing thousands of US citizens, and this so-called "health-care debate" will impact businesses in ways nobody can predict, because there's never been this level of intrusion into private employment since the social security act was implemented!

while the burger slingers out west at In-N-Out can’t serve up a cheeseburger without a Bible verse.

So don't read them. Or don't go to In-N-Out to begin with! If you don't like what they do, DON'T GO THERE!

A "license" to preach? Excuse me? There is no more a license to preach than there is a license to print adolescent fatuities in the pages of the Washington Post. Which is an awfully good thing for our author's career.

This is a little more than a mere slip of the pen, it is an attitude that pervades the elitist media: "Our job is to define your culture, yours is to shut up and shovel out the fries, and, incidentally, to receive our lordly disdain respectfully." It isn't going to work like that.

More by Petula, seem she supports SOME corporate political activism:

http://jezebel.com/petula-dvorak/
“Payback Is a Bitch for Abortion Clinic Protestors, Thanks to a Brilliant Landlord” ( Mar 30, 2012 )

Todd Stave has the unenviable position of being the landlord of a building in Germantown, Maryland, which he leases to an abortion provider called Reproductive Health Services Clinic. So he knows a little something about dealing patiently with anti-abortion protesters. But when they started calling him at home at all hours and harassing his family, he got fed up and came up with a very clever solution: Do unto others as they have been doing unto you.

Problems really began for Stave at the end of 2010, when he leased his building to LeRoy Carhart, one of the only doctors in the U.S. who openly acknowledges that he performs late-term abortions.

...If you’re wondering how Stave can remain so relaxed about the situation, he explains, “I’ve been a member of this fight since Roe v. Wade. Since I was 5 years old.” You see, the clinic used to belong to his father, and then his sister ran it. When he was younger, the office was firebombed, and protesters were often gathered outside his dad’s house. So he’s used to a certain level of harassment and he’ll tolerate it — but only up to a point. And recently, the usually calm, cool, and collected Stave was pushed to his limit.

...He began recording the names and numbers of the a@@holes who called, and then he gave the list of info to his friends and asked them to call these people back on his behalf. Shazam! And the really smart part was that when someone from Team Stave called, they always took the high road.

...Genius. While it was initially only a few friends doing the calling, the group quickly expanded. Soon, he was up to having 1,000 callers at his disposal. And they got crafty too. They’d look up information on the people who’d placed unwanted calls to Stave, and then when they called, they’d drop the names of the person’s children or their school into the conversation. They’d also, said Stave, “tell them that we bless their home on such and such street,” and then name their address. Are you getting shivers up you’re spine yet? Stave’s calling force became so powerful that sometimes he was able to hammer an unwanted caller with up to 5,000 calls in return. Looks like two can play at this game, stalkers...

No one is forcing anyone to eat at any of these restaurants, and as far as I know, none of the restaurants requires a 'religious test' before serving anyone.

If the 'mission' of the company bothers you, just don't eat there; problem solved.

This is the biggest problem we have to confront and fight head on with everyone we know. Disagreement is NOT hate. If I have a different political idea from someone, it doesn't mean that I HATE that other person, I simply disagree with them. And he fact that I will WORK to insure that MY political idea triumphs isn't hate, either.

If these companies fund organizations that work to support traditional marriage, it doesn't mean that they HATE homosexuals, they just disagree with them that there is any right for homosexuals to be 'married'.
