This afternoon, President Barack Obama gave a speech affirming his support for extending some of the 2001 and 2003 temporary federal tax cuts, which are often grouped together and referred to as the Bush tax cuts. It was a bluntly political speech made for the sole purpose of making headlines tomorrow along the lines of President Obama Supports Tax Cuts. Ive written before about the so-called Bush tax cuts, so if you want to know my opinion about whether or not they should be extended, look here.
For the purposes of this post, Im going to ignore the political and policy question in order to examine the political principle at work behind it. In particular, I want to draw your attention to one small, yet extraordinarily important part of the presidents speech:
Many members of the other party believe that prosperity comes from the top down, so that if we spend trillions more on tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans, that that will somehow unleash jobs and economic growth. - President Barack Obama, July 9th, 2012.

We know that that vision is. It’s named Julia.
It's not so much that "Julia" is a sick, anti-American nightmare as that no one in the Obama White House stopped those ads with a "Whoa! This is creepy!" I had to check a dozen places before I believed this cradle to grave ad for dependency was not a spoof or an Onion article that got picked up by mistake. This White House is as un-American as is possible.
