The recent jobs report from the BLS cast a dark shadow on economic recovery (although the usual cheerleaders are claiming it was a fluke). But the story in the US that was ignored for the most part was teen unemployment which stands at Euro Zone-like 25%.
In the Euro Zone, Spain has a horrible 52.8% unemployment rate for the under 25 male population. Greece is close behind at 43.40%.
Germany, on the other hand, stands at 8.80% unemployment for the under 25 group. But Germanys neighbor France has a 21.60% under 25 male unemployment rate. Sacre bleu!
The US has better numbers for the 20-24 segment at 13.20% (like Luxembourg). But this is an appalling number.
Bear in mind that we are counting on younger households to enter the housing market and economy, but they are not delivering the goods (so to speak). When analysts call for a smokin housing recovery this morning, it must be tempered by the high unemployment rates of people under 25.
And in Europe, which is declining in terms of economic growth, it is going to be a long, hot summer.
Japan, on the other hand, has a much lower youth unemployment rate of 9.0%, but rising.
Joe Ely recorded a Butch Hancock song called She Never Spoke Spanish to Me. Unfortunately, Spanish unemployment is talking to the USA, particularly for our youth.

One word
SOCIALISM
It is a destroyer.
All the usual “teen jobs” around here are filled by adult illegal immigrants.
But they will try it out again and again and again....
It’s not the ‘blessings’ of socialism that they’re after — it is the control of the populace that is so attractive to politicians.
Be in charge of a bunch of numbnuts and you can enrich yourself.

When I was a kid all teens worked. In 1965 when I was 14 I worked at a swimming pool for the summer for $5 a week. The life guards were paid fifty cents an hour.
In the following years I pumped gas and fixed flats while two of my friends worked at a small grocery store and another friend worked at a small hardware store, all of us were paid fifty cents an hour.
When we turned 16 we all tried to get minimum wage jobs for $1.45 an hour. Some of us did, some didn’t. Benefits? What the hell are benefits?
Now, thanks to the government, it’s almost impossible to get a job until you turn 16. And the government is trying to make it illegal for kids to work on the farm if they’re not at least 16 and then must be paid minimum wage. And what has all this government intervention gotten us? Kids with nothing to do but get into trouble. Idle hands are the devil’s workshop.
Ever-higher minimum wages, burdensome government taxes on workers comp, and Internet shopping have spurred incredible developments in technology that cut the floor out from underneath teen-age jobs. Throw in a dash of uncertainty about employer health-care requirements and who’d hire ‘em?
We are bringing in too many immigrants. If you can hire an intimidated adult who is at your beck and call - desparate for work - (illegals) it is easier than dealing with a teenager who is in school.
