I agree. Having a simple solar power solution to interface with standard power requirements such as 5 volt, 9 volt, 12 volt, etc., would be a fine addition to the preppers cache. Even a set for hot water creation would be nice.
I don’t no about the ‘exotic liqueurs’, I think most who are trading will just want something strong that gets them wasted fast. Black pepper is a GOOD Thought as well as Tabasco Sauce!
Got the solar battery recharger, rechargables, and a handcrank radio. Not bad for a po’ boy like me.

One simple thing for refrigeration - get a couple of two by 10s and lay the fridge down on them, like a chest freezer. You use far less power to keep the fridge cold, since all the cold air doesn’t spill out when you open the door.
It’s why supermarket chiller cabinets are usually horizontal. In THEORY, by doing that and only opening the fridge twice a day you can run them off a 4X4 panel easily. In practice, you need a burst from a gennie every so often to keep the batteries up.

I’ve run four-foot-diameter three aluminum-bladed wind generators on my boat. They are a good complement to solar power, often windy on cloudy days etc.
BUT, it gets mighty sporty when the wind gets above about 25mph. I’ve seen an albatross get its wing chopped clean off. Securing those blades gets real fun in high winds. Your hand can be removed without a problem. I’d sure hate to be climbing a pole to secure that 10’ diameter rig. The alternative is to trust the shutoff system, or watch it self destruct in high winds. I’d love to see it in action, shutting itself off at 30+kts of wind.
For sure, it works. In my application (boats) space is limited, so you tend to use things that are light and compact. Wind and solar fit on my stern arch.
Yep, solar rechargeable batteries can provide a lot of “civilization” cheap, and anywhere. (Well, not down in a cave.)

Buy a chest freezer, insted.

Kartographer: Thanks for this thread and keep it up. I’ve read your handbook, also. I have prepped since 1998. Can close my door and need nothing for a year and be cool, warm, have food, can cook, have water and light. I’ll even have running water at my sink and in bathroom even if pipe water is off.
I live by myself so giving to others would be a safety problem for me.
Yes, if SHTF Many spices would again become worth their weight in gold at the very least maybe much more!
You would need to modify the internal workings for such to work. The cooling system is subject to gravity and must remain in the upright position. I used to manage an appliance and electronics store and if we had to lay down the frig in the truck while delivering we were instructed to not plug in the unit till it had set for at least 8 hours least the unit be damaged.

There are enough restaurants going out of business that you might be able to go pick up a few boxes of those for free or really cheap.
Also, since we have kids in diapers, we have cases of wet wipes stockpiled and rotated.
One thing you can do with a defunct fridge or upright freezer - make a solar oven.
Paint the inside black, take the door off, and put a glass window/door over the thing and you have a nice, insulated solar oven. Bakes bread really nice.
