Quit acting stupid, Mitt
Charleston Daily Mail ^ | February 17, 2012 | Don Surber

Mitt Romney campaigned this week in Michigan with Republican Governor Rick Snyder who said: “Our country has never elected a president born and raised in Michigan.”

Given the oafish way Mitt Romney is campaigning, it never will. Mitt Romney is doing in Michigan what he did in South Carolina, when Republican Governor Nikki Haley endorsed him and Newt Gingrich promptly thumped him. In Minnesota, Republican ex-Governor Tim Pawlenty endorsed Mitt Romney just in time for another thumping, this time by Rick Santorum. His plan is to line up the party’s establishment and beat up on his opponents in the race. This might work if they were Nelson Rockefeller and Richard Nixon. But — as Sinead O’Connor once said — fight the real enemy. In her case it was the pope. In our case, it is Barack Obama.

Mitt Romney is running the wrong campaign. He is running against conservatives. He needs to run with them.

Republicans across the country are watching Mitt Romney burn through a small fortune to tell Republicans why they should not vote for Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum. We already know why. What Republicans need to know why they should vote for Mitt Romney. So far he is spending millions to present himself as a callow opportunist who seizes on the small (and not so small) imperfections of his opponents.

I am sure that is not the real Mitt Romney. I think.

I wish he would be the Mitt Romney we need: A brave man who will speak out against the president of the United States. Every day, in every speech, he should attack the expensive and failed policies of President Obama. In each commercial, Mitt Romney should present himself as the man who will save the nation by ridding it of its likable president who is in way over his head.

Mitt Romney needs to wake the sleeping giant called the Tea Party and be its new champion. Instead of wooing the Tea Party, Mitt Romney is turning the Tea Party off by becoming the Establishment Candidate. From Toby Harnden of the London Daily Mail:

But playing the “favorite son” — a term his senior aide Eric Fehrnstrom used on Twitter today — in Michigan is fraught with danger. Across the country, party establishment backing has not sewn up the nomination for Romney. In some cases, it could even have been counter-productive, making some voters feel they are being railroaded by party bigwigs seeking to bypass them. Romney lost Minnesota in a landslide despite having the backing of its former governor Tim Pawlenty and he was creamed in South Carolina even though its governor Nikki Haley campaigned tirelessly for him. Michigan, where Romney was born in 1947, is widely viewed as a must-win state for the Republican frontrunner – and that’s certainly how his own campaign views it. In the 2008 Michigan primary, Romney defeated John McCain by nine points. After losing three states to Rick Santorum last week, defeat in Michigan would be catastrophic.

Well, that might be one way to gain Mitt Romney’s attention.

Instead of yakking about baseball teams and the like with the press, Mitt Romney needs to hit Barack Obama hard and often. The best way to win the nomination is to prove to the Tea Party that you will indeed repeal Obamacare, end the incessant bailouts, balance the budget and once and for all end the endless “entitlement.” It’s our money and we do not approve of how it is being wasted by this neophyte at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. Waiting till the fall to add a conservative did not work in 2008 and it will not work in 2012. To win, Republicans need to have a conservative at the top of the ticket and at the bottom.

Mitt Romney needs to fire up the base — but first he has to find it. He is coming off as a country club Republican. Excuse me, that crowd endorsed Barack Obama 4 years ago and will so again. The shortest route to a Third party is to lose in November. And so far, Mitt Romney seems to be hell-bent to lose.

Is it asking too much to save the sloppy wet kisses for the private get-togethers on the back nine at the country club?

Romney is not now nor ever has been a conservative. He can’t wake anyone up who is a conservative, because he is not one. Romney can’t articulate conservatism because he is not one.
Romney is a liberal, it is that simple. The TEA Party knows it, anyone with a brain knows it.
If Romney wins the nomination, BHO campaign theme will be “why vote for him, you already have me”.

K-Wall Street has too much invested in Mitt for him to drop out.

That's true. Plus, Romney can't bash Obama too much in order to preserve his general election campaign theme:

"I'm for that, too, just not as much."

Mitt is running against conservatives because he opposes conservatives. That is one of the very few authentic parts of his campaign. He doesn’t speak out against Obama’s policies because he approves of those policies and plans to continue them. He’s not “a brave man”, he really is the shallow opportunist he seems to be. As for waking up the Tea Party, he’s praying that patriotic Americans will sleep through this election - he hates the idea of limited government almost as much as he hates the idea of not being president and getting to make the cool decisions for our lives while he gets to live in the cool house in DC. The fundamental problem with all of this advice is that Romney will not repeal Obamacare, will continue the incessant bailouts, will not even attempt to balance the budget or to end the endless “entitlement” mindset that he shares with the far left — because he is a big government leftist.

It could hardly be much clearer.

And if we don’t kill ObamaCare, our Republic is cooked.

He can't.

The whole concept of conservatism and individual rights, and most importantly, acting on character and principle, is foriegn to him.

For the good of the GOP, he needs to drop out.
