The most highly anticipated poll of likely Republican Iowa caucus goers is out and the most important number in it is 41. The final Des Moines Register poll before Tuesday's caucuses shows moderate Mitt Romney still unable to break out of the mid-20's after 5 years of campaigning. It also shows libertarian-leaning Ron Paul is at 22% which most believe is the best he'll ever do in any state by far. And the conservative field of Michele Bachmann, Newt Gingrich, Rick Perry and Rick Santorum are at a combined 45%. Why is it appropriate to combine their level of support instead of simply comparing each of their poll numbers to that of the frontrunners? Because according to the poll, 41% say they could still be persuaded to support another candidate and persuasion is a large part of the Iowa caucuses.

Mitt Romney can’t break out of 23, or so, for TWO YEARS ... and that little turd acts like he could be President. just wait til he is nominated (if he is) and the Press gets a hold of him and Conservatives sit 2012 out. THAT will send the message to the elite that they are NOT wanted anymore.
This is the money quote. I will keep saying it and saying it and saying it again and again.
Mitt Romney is not going to be the GOP nominee. His negatives are too high. Too many GOP voters will vote for anyone else besides Mitt. As the remaining candidates begin to drop out of the race, you will see the poll numbers increase for the remaining candidates except Romney.
The non-Romney vote will solidify around another candidate, but not in Iowa. Its going to be a war of attrition, with one candidate dropping out at the end of each primary, which very quickly gets us down to a three-way race. Romney 20%, Paul 20%, and non-Romney 60%.
We need TWO conservatives to drop out Wednesday morning — leaving the field with only two remaining conservatives, one flaming liberal (Aunt Willard), and a total whackjob (Uncle Paulie).
You know it. : )
Thanks for pimping your blog.
The whack job need to go now.

What a relief some are like me and undecided.I look at this like this. Perry,Bachmann,Gingrich or Santorum will take the nomination and Romney should give it up already!
Which two candidates? Newt and who else?
Whichever TWO finish in 5th and 6th Tuesday need to tell their tear-filled heart broken fans, "adios amigos!"
Here’s hoping that is Newt and Mitt.
I sadly doubt it will be Willard Flopney.
My guess, it’s two of three — Newt, Perry, and Bachmann that fail to finish in the top four.
Whichever two it is, “nice try! Please endorse Newt (or at least, Santorum) before boarding your plane out of Iowa.”
But all of them agree - You're a Blog Pimp.
I know what you're thinking...
"That's three halves!"
Well, we're not completely sure if the Schrodinger half is there at all,
and the Cheshire half seems to appear and then vanish for no reason.
So in reality(?) we have somewhere between one half cat and a cat and a half.
Bachmann has no chance, looking ahead.
If everyone dropped out but Bachmann, she would lose in a landslide of epic proportion.
Santorum is the latest “flavor”. It’s his turn. It has been the “turn” of several...so?
But of course HE will not drop out because there are forces who aren’t really for him that are pushing him to a degree beyond belief.
Newt should drop out, after collapsing after leading there...all in a very short span of time...but of course he won’t because there’s South Carolina and because he’s Newt.
Now to the bottom line: this is a caucus state, and one that has mostly produced oddball results throughout its history. Not entirely, but more often than not.
It is the first action ANYWHERE. To call for everyone to drop out who didn’t finish high enough in the Iowa
CAUCUS is over the top.
It does not match political reality.
Now if some of them decide to drop out...for their own reasons, fine.
Newt has the experience and has a proven Conservative track record for putting the economy back on track.
Romney will get the nom so long as dingleberries like Santorum and Bachmann are hanging in the race to make sure Romney gets it.
“THAT will send the message to the elite that they are NOT wanted anymore.”
...if they haven’t learned by now, I don’t see how this would do anything. Besides that, one more term of the kenyan and it’s the end of our Republic so even if they DO learn something...
Exactly. These two need to step down ASAP for the good of the country. But something tells me one of them will keep right on going, wasting time, votes, and money, even with no hopes of winning.
