I read the book and it was an awesome action-packed read. Louis Zamperini is still among the living, last I heard.

A very good book. The only hard part to read through was the prisoner camp section which seemed to drag on and on. It dragged on for so much of the book that it made you feel his anger and live the desperation after the heroic desperation suffered at sea.

It is a tremendously interesting story of a life reaching the finishing line totally spent and pushed to the fullest after using every ounce of heart, mind, body, and soul that he had in him.

What ever happened to skinny kids growing up tough as nails and smart? I’m not surprised he started riding skateboards in his 80s. What a great story ...

Ditto the other comments; I listened to the audible audio version, which was also quite good and I can fully recommend.

Also by this author, “Seabiscuit: An American Legend”, the incredible story about the most amazing racehorse ever, but also a revealing study of America in a better time.

Yes, I definitely consider the Great Depression America, highly superior to HipHop, porno culture, spending-ourselves-into-inevitable-doom, absurdly narcissistic 2011 America.

After reading this book on my Kindle, I bought a half dozen copies in hardback and gave them out as high school graduation gifts to some young men.

The book is fantastic, and I hope they all read it and learn something about perseverance and determination from Louis Zemperini.

Author Laura Hillenbrand is as amazingly courageous as the man and the horse that she has written about in her two books.

She suffers from an extremely debilitating case of the neuroimmune disease, ME/CFS, and is so home-bound she cannot fully participate in the promotion of her books and movies about them.

Fortunately for Ms. Hillenbrand (and me, as I also have the illness) last month two Norwegian MD's published strong evidence that ME/CFS is an autoimmune disorder that is treatable with Rituximab:
