Houston clergy, politicians gather for immigration prayer service

More than a dozen prominent Houston faith leaders were joined by Rep. Shelia Jackson Lee and Rep. Al Green at an interfaith service, where they prayed for immigration reform as a way to protect family unity, protect workers and uphold their rights, the Episcopal Diocese of Texas reported.

Cardinal Daniel DiNardo of the Archdiocese of Galveston Houston, the Rt. Rev. C. Andrew Doyle of the Episcopal Diocese, mainline Protestant leaders, rabbis and imams adopted the statement “As people of God, we join in faith, prayer and action calling our national leaders to adopt humane and ethical comprehensive immigration reform laws consistent with the moral beliefs and democratic traditions of our immigrant nation.”

The prayer service, sponsored by The Metropolitan Organization and held at Institute of Interfaith Dialog, is part of the Houston Area Interfaith Campaign for Humane Immigration Reform, which has reach thousands of Houstonians with its trainings in over the past two years.

“We are renewing our commitment to our brothers and sisters,” DiNardo said. “The simple religious reason why we are doing this is because human beings are made in the image and likeness of God. No matter who you are. And as leaders we have to keep the issue in front of people. There has to be a prophetic voice.”

The service was followed by a series of workshops on human trafficking, work and wages, and pending federal legislation and policy.

Funny how this “The simple religious reason why we are doing this is because human beings are made in the image and likeness of God, does not apply in places like Mexico. It seems it is limited to U.S.

We already have comprehensive immigration laws and the illegal are breaking them. Enforce the laws already on the books before making more that they will ignore too.

I can’t find ANYWHERE in the Bible where Jesus or ANY of the Apostles taught that Christians should break the law, or promote the breaking of the law, EXCEPT when the law violated your worship.

These people are socialists, marxists, collectivists, anarchists, all masquerading as clergy.

I sure would not want to be one of them at the Judgement Seat trying to explain to God what they are doing and why they are doing it.

Funny thing is... I agree with the concept. Put an end to illegal immigration and families will be strengthened. The illegal mom can raise her children at their home country and not be sexually abused by the “coyotes”. Illegal dad could stay with the family and not be sent to prison. American families would see less unemployment, crime and fewer hospital closings.

What they are fighting is the re-unification of the family in the home country. We are trying to put the family back together for them. And if the “religous reason” was in fact true...then the church would be OK if these people NEVER gave money to the church again. I wonder what the story would be if no illegals tithed...Just sucked up the “Generosity”.

I agree -- immigration reform would protect American family unity, protect American workers and uphold their rights -- because the only immigration reform now possible is one where we actually control our borders.
