Luke 22: Then said he unto them, But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip: and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one. Note: Jesus is clearly not advocating violence as the first choice solution to problems, but he is moderating his earlier, more peaceful message. I believe this family's situation is one in which Jesus would advocate buying a sword or the modern equivalent.
In a Muslim country, under Sharia Law, THEY DO NOT HAVE ANY RIGHTS.
Read up on the concept of "dhimmi" in Islam. A dhimmi is a non-Muslim living in an Islamic controlled state. He is not even a second-class citizen.
Non-Muslim dhimmis may not carry weapons, under penalty of death. They may not raise their hands against a Muslim, even in self defense, under penalty of death. A dhimmi killing a Muslim, for any reason, may subject their entire community to death by Muslim rioters.
