Palm Beach Post on Taxes
BizPac Review ^ | 9-1-2011 | Bill Martin

Typical of The Palm Beach Post, the newspaper ran an article recently by Laura Green on Warren Buffett’s continuing rant that his taxes are too low (“Warren Buffett pushes higher tax rates, but some doubt those would be right or beneficial”). Contrary to the headline, which sounds as though the writer would quote a number of people who disagree with Mr. Buffett, Green quotes a grand total of one local entrepreneur who thought she was “being penalized for working hard or succeeding." She also included a substantial rebuttal by a local CPA who thought higher tax rates would not keep the rich from investing or hiring. Fair and balanced. Her article generated 21 comments the last time I looked.

Too bad Green couldn’t include some quotes from articles written by Stephen Moore, a senior economics writer for the Wall Street Journal, or Harvey Golub, former CEO of American Express. Mr. Moore’s central point is that the “real tax rate on corporate income paid to individuals through capital gains and dividends is not 15%... it is closer to 45% once you count the tax on corporate profits.” Mr. Buffett owns 25 percent of Berkshire Hathaway, so the corporate tax is especially relevant to him.

Why would anyone be surprised, I also bet they did not have a companion article about how much back taxes Buffett owes

Maybe the Post is understaffed like so many other papers, and didn’t have the resources to find real economists to get opinions from. Maybe that is why the business community in Palm Beach County doesn’t read the Post!

If you like the liberal mainstream media so much why don’t you read them exclusively. Conservative news sites are the answer to the liberal media. What exactly is your problem with that?

The newby’s entire posting history is one big blop pimping exercise.

If the poster thinks his blog is worth posting, why does he just post teasers?

I’m a donor. By your reasoning every post on FR is free advertising for the originating publication. Since many of the posts come from the liberal media (with mostly appropriate barf alerts) aren’t we donors subsidizing our opponents?
