NFL HoFer Jerry Rice: Obama’s Problems Past and Current ‘Inherited from George Bush’
Three Fingers of Politics ^ | July 29, 2011 | Stupac

The most recent issue of ESPN the Magazine, the bi-weekly publication of the 24-hours cable sports network ESPN, gave current and former pro athletes their own segment to “sound off” on various subjects, including news of the day. [INSERT LINK TO ARTICLE] While most athletes discussed rule changes to their respective sports or things they’d like to accomplish after sports, former San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Jerry Rice took a different. Instead, he offered readers some thoughts on President Barack Obama’s performance. Shorter version – it’s George Bush’s fault: "I think with President Obama, everyone is criticizing him for taking on what George Bush left him. Give him an opportunity. This is something he inherited from George Bush. I really try to stay out of politics and all of that, but to see everything happening on television with people constantly bashing him with their different opinions -- we have wars, the deficit, all of this stuff. There is so much going on right now that it's going to take him a while to turn this around. So just give him a chance." Apparently two-and-half years aren’t long enough for Rice. Just exactly how much time is needed to fix what Obama “inherited” from President Bush? Rice, a NFL Hall of Fame wide receiver, played the majority of his career for the San Francisco 49ers. He was an amazing wide receiver in his day, winning three Super Bowls and racking up some gaudy stats (208 TDs, 22,895 receiving yards and 1,549 receptions). Although he claims he “really” tries to stay out of politics, perhaps he should and stick to talking football.

Well cr*p! Do any of them have a lick of sense? :(

The prominence of skin pigmentation often overrides the level of good sense, I'm afraid.

Talented WR, legendary work ethic, not too bright. Sirius NFL radio gave him a year to get his announcing/talking-on-the-radio skills up to speed by putting him on late night talkshows. Couldn’t even hang talking to truckers about football.

As a Raider fan, I can say Rice wasn't all that great of a receiver. While he played for Oakland, he would get lost during the games. Couldn't be found.

Well, of course he wasn't "all that" when with the Raiders. He was well past his prime. But when he was at the top of his game in SF, there were none better.

Montana made Rice great. I used to talk to both of them at meals in Santa Clara. Rice was not the brain trust there.

Actually, as a 49er fan who “hates” the Cowboys, I do like some of the individual Cowboys’ players, including Smith. I hope he views that moment as one of life’s fumbles.

Well, of course the Montana-Rice combo was great... but Rice excelled when Steve Young was QB, too.

Always remember obama didn’t inherit anything. He volunteered for this job. He either knew what he was getting in to. Or he’s an incompetent ass and ignorant of his surroundings

I will take incompetent ass for $500 Alex.

Lol, I'm a Cowboys fan who hates the 49ers! I've always liked Emmitt but his lack of good judgement off the field towards Obama is a fumble that the other team picked up and scored off of! :)

Jerry Rice took one too many helmets to the head. He doesn't know of what he speaks.

Hey listen @ hole, I wish I could have blamed my previous boss on everything that went wrong when I got to be supervisor. Unfortunately, everything fell into the "It's your fault" the day I took the job, not 2 1/2 years later.

Jerry Rice- do a little history...this is the same crackpot that was whining “racism” when he was getting no marketing/endorsement deals in the late ‘80s...

of course the athlete making the most money from endorsements at the time was Bo Jackson....followed by Michael Jordan...followed by Tiger Woods...
