The reason is money, because three-quarters of medical-spending is driven by chronic diseases, such as obesity and tobacco-related diseases, she said.

When they figure out that old age is the root cause of medical spending we are all goners

Yep, they plan to do just that.

In the dying breath of the Lame Duck Session the Congress and Senate passed HR2748/S.510/HR2751 (FDA food takeover bill) in the name of food safety. They sold this to Congress by saying we were under attack by terrorist who wished to poison our food supply. Not doubt they would like to, but this is a horror or a bill hatched in stealth at night. I have posted many times the Congressmen who voted for it.

Of course, the free market is the solution. Make people responsible for themselves. Make them pay for their own costs and let them make decisions based on how they want to live and what they want to spend.

The free market stares these government flunkies in the face and their conclusion is: "We need more government control".

Because it's not about health, it's not about cost, it's not about food.

It's about control.

According to the FDA - “There is no ‘deeply rooted’ historical tradition of unfettered access to foods of all kinds,”

This is another disaster in process. Central “planning” NEVER works.

Remember how high cigarette taxes are, now think of what that type of tax and regulation will do to our food supply. THAT is what we are facing.

How about this...start with the people already recieving taxpayer paid healthcare.

the ones living off the gubmint are far more likely to be fat and smoke than the rest of us.

And since the largest demographic of the largest people are African-American women, maybe Moose-smell should be havin a chat with her sistahs instead of cramping working-man whiteys style.

So to SAVE MONEY, the government demands that we do as they say and ignore the Constitution. How nice.

The left’s ultimate goal has ALWAYS been depopulation and the easiest way to control the masses is to control the distribution of food .

Eventually, we will see regs declaring national standards for caloric intake in order to ‘fight’ obesity.

(of course, many government elitists will be EXEMPT from the standards along with the usual cast of government approved minorities)

I’d imagine that those who will be targeted first with strict caloric intake, regardless of weight, will be those of us that reside in Red States and are members of what Congresswoman Jackson calls the Christian Militants.

RE :”The federal government has a growing interest in the eating habits of Americans for the same reason it has an interest in tobacco consumption, said Kathleen Sebelius, the secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services. The reason is money, because three-quarters of medical-spending is driven by chronic diseases, such as obesity and tobacco-related diseases, she said.

Is this even a logical argument? If you wanted to save money wouldnt you just cut tht money spent ? ie Obama-care and medicare and allow different levels of insurance coverage per risk?

If you are successful forcing people to be healthy and they live longer then dont they just get similar medical problems at a later age which will cost more in the long run through entitlements.

Watch closely when these people in DC talk about saving money. Most people just believe arguments like this without question.

Why not put special ‘food dispensers’ into every household. When you want food, you get on a scale that decides how much will be dispensed to you. It will also keep track of what you’ve eaten that day and adjust the type and portion of food accordingly. It could also be configured to estimate the amount of carbon dioxide you will produce metabolizing the amount of food you’ve been given, and send the information to the government so that they can determine how much extra carbon tax you should be assessed.

Kids weren't obese until the government started to feed them everyday. THEY'RE OVER-EATING!! And it's cr** food.

Give them cereal and WHOLE milk for breakfast and soup and sandwich for lunch...PERIOD.

No pizza, no chicken fingers....

The gov knock all the fast food places and then serves the same thing in school. Dumb...just dumb...

“Feds look to regulate food similar to tobacco, with hopes of saving money on health care”

This was totally forseeable and would only be shocking if it did not happen.

Idiots wanted gooberment involved in financing health care. Gooberment begins funding health care with our hard earned tax dollars, finds that costs explode, looks for ways to contain costs, finds that smokers cost more money, and then begins to regulate what would otherwise be an individual choice.

Next will be regulating behavior that leads to obesity.

Gooberment never grows smaller or becomes less intrusive without a revolution of some sort.

We need a private health care system, with no gooberment involvement, but I don’t see the sheeple going along with that.
