Palin's enemies; believing three impossible things before breakfast.
The Virginian ^ | 6/11/2011 | Moneyrunner

Palin detractors are legion, but the strange thing about their claims – when you actually think about their claims – is their appeal to people’s stupidity. One of the first impossible things we are asked to believe is that Sarah Palin doesn’t read newspapers. This claim is made because she did not name a newspaper she read during her Katie Couric interview (see video). As a result, if you Google “Palin doesn’t read newspapers” you get over 9,270,000 links. Think about that for a moment … OK, does it sound even slightly plausible that the Governor of Alaska - or the candidate who makes national news - doesn’t read newspapers?

I have to admit that I rarely read my local paper for news because the Internet provides me with a much greater variety of sources and is much more current than any newspaper. Technologically, newspapers are obsolete.

I do glance at the editorial section because I am an opinion junkie. Which led me to the second impossible thing we are told to believe about Palin; this one a little more current. Eugene Robinson, a Washington Post columnist, demands you believe that Sarah Palin doesn’t know the conventional story of Paul Revere’s ride. In this he is joined by lots of people whose knowledge of history is limited to grade school stories and poetic tales. Here are a few things that these people believe: that Paul Revere rode alone, that he cried out “The British are coming,” and that he finished his ride in Concord, alerting the Minutemen. None of these things are true, but that is the children’s version; the Eugene Robinson version.

I can’t remember when I last read a newspaper. But the elitist arogance of Kommie Katy was part & parcel of the media who know so much that is not based on reality.

I have to admit that I rarely read my local paper for news because the Internet provides me with a much greater variety of sources and is much more current than any newspaper. Technologically, newspapers are obsolete.

I'm also a news junkie, and in the age before internet I would haunt the out-of-town news stands, I would read papers from all over, I spent a lot of money on magazines including less-known ones digging for that obscure factoid that would make everything make sense to me.

But with the advent of internet I don't do that anymore and if you asked me what papers I read I couldn't tell you.

I also usually have a couple of books going at the same time but if you asked me on camera what I read you might get a deer-in-the-headlights look from me unless I had taken time to think about it beforehand. Even right now, I have a pile of books in the car that I've waded through over the past few months but I'd have to think about it to really answer the question, or go and look in the back seat.

The down-side of getting your news from the internet is that I don't know much about what is going on in my own little town since I no longer read their paper. I got tired of the bias; they had the owner on the radio a few months ago, and caller after caller called into complain about bias and she kept denying it. No wonder they literally can't give it away anymmore. They had people in front of the grocery stores offering free subscriptions for a while... and no one was taking them.

“I also usually have a couple of books going at the same time but if you asked me on camera what I read you might get a deer-in-the-headlights look from me unless I had taken time to think about it beforehand.”

And there’s the rub. Deer-in-the-headlights Palin could have, and should have, taken time to think about a few things before the Gibson/Couric interviews in ‘08. She seems to have expected to recieve the same “So how does it feel to be the first...” questions Obama got.

You may want to see the segment of the interview with Palin & Couric. I had not actually seen it but read about it. Palin’s answer was actually a put-down of Couric’s question. She didn’t get the deer-in-the-headlights look at all. here’s the link.

Not stuned, like she was before Inquisitor Gibson, but also doesn’t name any favorites, does she? Doesn’t even mention any specific paper or magazine.

Who was that Paul Revere guy? Did he warn us that the Beatles were coming to knock Elvis down a peg or two? Did he also tell them they weren’t getting our Sun Record 45’s? That Paul Revere? No wonder those Yankee media folks don’t know nothing about him.
