Why It’s OK for the U.S. Govt. to Burn Bibles But Condemn Burning the Koran
Pajamas Media ^ | Roger Kimball

F. Scott Fitzgerald said that the ability to hold two contradictory ideas in the mind simultaneously was a mark of genius.

If that were true, the U.S. government must be full of geniuses. Consider: it was just a week or two ago that everyone from Sen. Lindsey Graham (R., sort of, SC) to Gen. David Petraeus and Sec. of State Hillary Clinton loudly condemned the Rev. Terry Jones for presiding over his Koran barbecue. Burning a holy book, you see, was hateful, intolerant, and extremely disrespectful.

That’s how General Petraeus put it: “hateful, intolerant, extremely disrespectful.”

For his part, Sen. Lindsey wondered aloud on Face the Nation about how the government could “push back” against individuals who did such things. “Free speech is a great idea,” he said, “but we’re in a war.” Ann Barnhardt did for Lindsey Graham what Apollo did for Marsyas, and I hope that who ever runs against him in 2014 plays his statement and Ms. Barnhardt’s video again and again and again.

But back to the question of genius. The U.S. government under Barack Obama is deeply committed to battling any belittlement, criticism, or questioning of Islam. (“I consider it part of my responsibility as President of the United States,” he said, “to fight against negative stereotypes of Islam wherever they appear.”)

At the same time, however, it is OK, in the Obama regime, for the U.S. government to burn Bibles. Yes, that’s right. Bibles were sent to U.S. soldiers in Afghanistan. But the U.S. government determined that the presence of Bibles in this “devoutly Muslim country” might inflame the natives. So they burned them. Why did they burn them? Because it is military policy to burn its trash.

So, the Bibles, according to U.S. policy, are trash, garbage, and it’s OK to burn them.

Too many just don’t see their hypocrisy when it comes to islam. People can not talk about God in schools, but kids are made to learn about islam and even wear headgear that symbolizes that religion. Ridiculous idiots! So worried about being tolerant to other religions other than the one this country was founded on.

F. Scott Fitzgerald said that the ability to hold two contradictory ideas in the mind simultaneously was a mark of genius.

And George Orwell described the same thing as a form of cognitive dissonance that can be achieved through propaganda and brainwashing. I think the latter opinion more squarely hits the mark.

It really irked me to hear Petraeus repeatedly referring to the koran as the “holy koran”. He used that term about four or five times.

The de facto dhimmis show respect for the Koran because it’s politically (and maybe militarily) expedient. Bible burners don’t generally get their heads chopped off. Koran burners do. That’s reality whether one believes it’s right or not.

Personally, I think we should tell Muslims their religion is an abomination, but I understand why some could consider that counterproductive to our national interests.

So they burned them. Why did they burn them? Because it is military policy to burn its trash.

Can this get any more false and demagogic?

Question: What is the traditional, respectful way to dispose of an American Flag?

Every year the American Legion Post 180, Lebanon, Conn. Have a Dignified Unserviceable Flag Burning Ceremony as part of their Veterans Day events

Is the American Legion "burning it's trash"?

As far as that nutjob in Florida burning the Koran, that set off the Islamist nutjobs in Iraq and Afghanistan and our U.S. troops there had to deal with the resulting riots at the risk of their lives.

Taliban exploits Afghan riots over Koran burning ..... Officials say insurgents have used the riots as cover for attacks against Western and government targets and have reaped propaganda benefits by allying themselves with popular fury over the incident led by Florida pastor Terry Jones

What the nutjob in Florada did was to "Provide aid and comfort to the enemy". Just like his buddy, Fred Phelps.

Too many just don’t see their hypocrisy...

imho, its the sort structural hypocrisy that can't be avoided when a society loses it's bearings.

” Burning the Qur’an (to me, at least) isn’t nearly as offensive as trampling on the United States Constitution. The Qur’an calls for the subjugation or death of American citizens; the Constitution demands our protection, even from our own government. The Qur’an severely limits the rights of women, Christians, Jews, etc.; the Constitution enshrines equal rights for all citizens. The Qur’an has been a constant retrograde force calling people back to the ideals and attitudes of seventh-century Arabia; the Constitution has brought progress both to the United States, and to nations who have imitated us. Strangely, many U.S. politicians (not to mention judges) now find it more prudent to honor the Qur’an than to honor the Constitution.

And here’s what’s happening. If Muslims weren’t murdering so many people in Afghanistan, and Pakistan, and Somalia, and Nigeria, and Sudan, and Europe, and . . . well, you get the picture; and if Western governments weren’t behaving in such a cowardly fashion, the world would never have heard of Pastor Terry Jones or Ann Barnhardt. People like Jones and Barnhardt are standing up to condemn Islam’s violent teachings because they’re sick of Western leaders bowing to Islam. So the next time you’re wondering why there’s so much “Islamophobia” (where “Islamophobia” simply means “Constitutionally protected criticism of Islam’s most horrendous teachings”), look no further than people like Senator Lindsey Graham.”

Exactly.

The Islamic world is full of nutjobs that need very little excuse to go on on murderous rampages and this idiot provides them a gift wrapped excuse so that our allies are murdered and our troops are put in danger.

Do you really believe that the Taliban relly care if this idiot burns a Koran?

No. They welcome it because it serves their purposes just like the burning of the Reichstag served the Nazis.

and what were they doing differently before it became a krispy koran?? Pretty much the same thing.

What do you expect, he’s one of the new kinder, gentler warriors, you know, another PC idiot who happens to be in command of a large number of troops. Scares the hell out of me, that’s for sure.

Obama is a Muslim, his beliefs are in Ialam, he has nothing else Christian.

As long as America allows this person to bark orders then the Quran will be protected. You will be sent to a Federal Prison if caught burning one.

Its the time of the Obamawar, surrender your Bibles or resist?
America was founded by religious freedom seekers, yaeh I think some history book called the “Pilgrims” but I would bet those books are being edited just like Obamas birth records so they will say “Muslims” founded America.

When I first read about that, I immediately wondered who the idiots were telling the Taliban about it, then I realized it probably is a lie from the media to give CAIR and Islam some credibility. They will kill people just because it's Tuesday.
