The Toilet Paper Tax

Jim Suttle, Mayor of Omaha, has an interesting "solution" to his city's $1.7 billion federally mandated sewer improvement project. What is it? A toilet paper tax, a 10-cent federal tax per toilet paper roll.

The Omaha World-Herald broke it down for all of those toilet toting consumers: "Based on the four-pack price for Charmin double rolls Tuesday at a midtown Hy-Vee, such a tax would add more than 10 percent to the per-roll price, pushing it over a buck."

Maybe Sheryl Crow was right, only use one square of toilet paper per sitting, "except for those pesky occasions where 2 or 3 could be required."

Except in this case we will be protecting the checkbook, not the forests.

I’ll just use paper napkins instead.

If they get on to what I’m doing, I’ll just use a paint scraper instead.

This is ridiculous. Omaha can pay for its own sewer and every other city can pay for their own sewers. “Federal money” is not some magical remedy that comes from heaven.

You’d probably think that basket of maple leaves in my bathroom are for decoration.

What does he care? It won’t affect him until they start taxing leaves or whatever Kenyans use.

Obama will be all over this with the Justice Department. A local mayor calling for a federal law (according to the article) about toilet paper taxes? Doesn’t the mayor know this federal issue is best handled by the “feds”?

For those who forget history, be reminded of Flim-flam Florio’s toilet paper tax which cost him his reelection.

Please Obama , endorse this idea!

Save those old yellow pages....

Wait a minute there. The yellow pages serve a more useful informational purpose. Try something else. Like the pages of the New York Times.

yah....but you have to buy the NYT, whereas I get at least three different Yellow Pages left on my doorstep every year.

And it’s better paper than the Sears catalog is printed on...

Maybe we could recycle the massive paper pile of the printed federal budget, Obmacare and the federal register and use them as butt wipe.

You’d probably think that basket of maple leaves in my bathroom are for decoration.

Back in the "good 'ol days" of outhouses the Montgomery Wards wish book stood in for TP. A good day was finding some of the index pages left. A bad day was when you were down to the glossy color print pages.

There was an old outhouse joke about finding a red corn cob hanging on a string next to a white cob which was next to yet another red cob. City slicker asks why a red cob, a white cob, and another red cob? The farmer answers, first you use the red cob, then you use the white cob to see if you need to use the other red cob...

Regards,
GtG
