As pointed out previously in I Can See Russia, one of Sarah Palins roles was that of Commander in Chief of the Alaska National Guard. While she wouldnt have been charged with making decisions concerning the military, she would have been kept informed of any possible threats to the state. While Border States in the U.S. Southwest have to deal with the invasion of illegal aliens, Alaska has to contend with the ominous threat of Russian Bear bombers. Should these military airplanes penetrate our defenses, they could quite possibly disrupt the flow of oil by bombing the Trans-Alaskan Pipeline System and the terminals located at either end of the pipeline, not to mention large city centers. It would be illogical to think that the governor would not have been briefed regularly on this particular threat, or that she wouldnt have developed insight into the behavior of a potentially dangerous country like Russia even without direct contact with its leader.
But Governor Palin would have gained foreign policy experience in another arena as well.
Unlike most states governors in the lower 48, Alaskas governor is in the unique position of dealing with international issues on a regular basis. Because Alaska is located at the top of the Pacific Rim, its strategic position and vast wealth of natural resources make it an important trading center.
International investment and trade contribute heavily to Alaskas economy. Its exports reached $3-$4 billion per year for the last seven years in seafood, minerals, energy, precious metals, and forest products, respectively.
Governor Palins first encounter with foreign diplomats was in January 2007 when she met with officials from Canada. Yukon Premier Dennis Fentie, Consul General Peter Lloyd from the Canadian Consulate in Seattle, and the Northwest Territories Minister for Industry, Tourism and Investment Brendan Bell met specifically

Please...this Palin worship really gets out of hand with silly stuff like this.
tina fey said ‘I can see russia from my house.’
If you really thought it was “silly,” you wouldn’t waste your time with it.
You must be like the rest of them, scared to death of Sarah Palin.
The author of this story needs to get a grip.
I absolutely loved her show “Sarah Palin’s Alaska”, never missed an episode.
Silly soesn’t clome close.
BTW - Those “Bear” bombers, releics of the 50s - rarely come around, and are turned away in the ADIZ - but active Duty USAF.
We don’t need Rusian bombers to take out the oil industry - we have all the Greenies and lawyers you could shake a stick at. THose lawyers have managed to “bomb’ ALL new oil deveopment in the last several years.
Come up and visit for a while = stay a few weeks, not a couple of days. Talk with folks who live here year round. You’ll get you eyes opened and your head out of your 4th point of contact.
ANd I say that i the nicest way I know.
(flame suit on)
I only thought it was silly after I read it.
Perhaps I should be afraid of such a foreign policy giant as the two year governor of Alaska.
Spare me.
“tina fey said I can see russia from my house.”
Most people have no idea that less then 3 miles separates
Alaska from Russia.
The article gives an interesting list of diplomat contacts by Palin.
I welcome the information. It's simply more data that I'll use when I pick a candidate.
Do you really have a problem with that?
Why the unprovoked insults?
Poor li’l tina fey doesn’t even understand metaphors. None of the liberal media do: They laughed at Palin, but the joke was on them and their ignorance.
When someone writes a silly article and I say it is silly that is not unprovoked.
Every governor who lobbies for their states meets diplomats, I would say so what? It is not relevant to a presidential decision because every governor running has the same experience.
Please explain what you mean by "worship", and "silly".
Worship: Praise of a two year governor of a small state with an article that wants to make her sound like Eisenhower.
Silly: See above.
You are setting the bar pretty low in comparing anyone to Obama. My problem is not in comparing Palin to Obama, my problem is when Conservatives compare her to true giants like Reagan. Or in this stupid article try to make her out to be Ike.
I would like for Palin to have actually done something before I make such comparisons. I’m still waiting to be impressed or at least awakened.
