Why Cruise Lines are sailing away from California: avoiding high taxes and Mexican violence

The news that several major Cruise Lines are leaving California and/or cutting back cruises to the “Mexican Riviera” presented a dilemma to the media. The story caught them between two facts, neither of which they wanted to report.

They tried quarantining it and smothering the story to mitigate the damage to California’s Democrat, but they had to explain why the lines were leaving the Ports of San Diego and Los Angeles. It was a genuine lose – lose for the steno pool. Nevertheless, here’s the elements of this story not being reported.

Why they’re sailing away

The first reason the ships are abandoning California are the oppressive taxes they are forced to pay in order to feed the once “Golden” State’s spending addiction.

Since California already has a “reported” $26 billion deficit, the notion that a liberal Democrat like Jerry Brown, supported by a liberal Democrat Legislature, will raise taxes is as sure a bet as the daily tides. They’re fleeing the new taxes they KNOW are coming.

Second is the extreme violence taking place in the “Mexican Riviera.” It isn’t hard to see the cause and effect between the sickening carnage Acapulco awoke to on Saturday January 15 when 28 bodies (including 15 which had been decapitated) were found on its streets and the unusual (last straw) Saturday afternoon announcement that the major Cruise Lines had paid enough seen enough and were leaving almost immediately.

Keep your new terminal

“….Apparently the cruise industry was so eager to flee California, even a new $28 million Port of San Diego terminal, packed with the latest amenities, opened November 5 2010, meant nothing in its final deliberations. Now less than three months later tax hungry California and murderous Mexico have rendered that new terminal a “white elephant.”….

The media would love for the truth of why the Cruise Lines left California to just go away.

It didn’t help that Carnival Cruise’s flagship vessel in the area caught on fire and has been out since November.

But besides that, they did move one of their other Riviera cruise ships - the Carnival Spirit out of San Diego - to Australia in 2012. However, it wasn’t a year-round ship to the Riviera anyway; the vessel spent a lot of the year doing Alaskan and Hawaiian cruises.

Out of curiosity, what proof do you have that Micky Arison is a lib?

I mean, he renounced his US citizenship for Israel for tax purposes.

Other than that, a quick Googling shows no real political involvement, unless I didn’t spend enough time doing it.

You can call a democrat hack a lot of things but you can never call them one thing smart.

Baloney,, tell me where dock workers would be cheaper ANYWHERE else in the USA. It’s Kalifornia Taxes. Even more than Mexican violence. Are they stopping their other cruises to Mexico on the esat coast?

California has been a high tax, high cost place to do business for some time now and the cruise lines have done just fine. But high taxes and high costs have more of an impact if you're not making money. I imagine it's more the near collapse of the Mexican cruise business that's the major reason. We get brochures from most of the major lines and they're practically giving Mexican cruises away. But who would want to go somewhere where the violence is escalating? So they're sending the ships where there are paying passengers.

Anyone that vacations or visits Mexico on a cruise is subsidizing illegal immigration.

Cruise ships are heading out of Bayone, NJ to New England, Canada, Bermuda, & the Caribbean. They’re doing well.

I just did a search for cruise lines departing from LA. I found 63 different itineraries, 145 sailings and 9 different cruise lines.

Hmmm...

Regarding Mexico:
A friend went on a cruise and got off at a port to the sight of military with machine guns protecting the area for two blocks. Go out of the two blocks and kidnappers get your butt.
Then you also have the poor and disabled charging the boats as they dock like they are carrying the last food for them in the world for their last meal. It is bleak over there.

Second Mexico story: Painter working on the building here got robbed by two truck loads of Narcos a week ago while going to visit his children in Mexico city.

Third story: My wife, born in Mexico and legally here went to see a grandmother near 90 who may not be around much longer.
In the last two years the whole place has been taken over by drug lords; people vanish from their homes for good, people now say nothing in public for fear they also will disappear, and only speak in whispers inside their own homes.
My wife was scared she'd get kidnapped the whole time she was there and never left her grandma's place till she left.

Mexico right now = Afghanistan

CA is going to have Prop 13 attacked and undermined at every turn by Brown. If this happens you will see lots of people lose their homes unable to keep up with the taxes. Plus they are already talking a 4% tax on your home if you move out of state.

California is sick in the head regarding the leadership of the state. They spend and behave like they are all on crack IMO.
