The breast milk Industry is charging users, which may or may not be covered by insurance,$3 – $5 per ounce according to Time Magazine. If one takes the average of $4 per ounce that equates $512 per gallon. While no numbers are available from HMBANA, according to their site “745,329 ounces of milk 2005″ was donated and “shared” throughout the United States. Of course a “Prescription” is needed for outpatient usage which may not be covered by Insurance. Believe it or not, that is a $3 Million Dollar industry. One wonders what current numbers apply here. (Update: According to NBC, HMBANA processed 1.5 million ounces last year or an estimated $6 million dollars of product – an increase of 100% in the last 4 years).

Not satisfied with having as many people as possible on the government teat, the Administration now wants to regulate the teat.

Is it time for the IRS to tax breastfeeding mothers on the “imputed income” of this soon-to-be regulated product? [yes, they really do tax us on income we never received under that concept]

According to the citation in the blog - the government subsidizes Formula Makers to the tune of 1/3rd of their yearly sales through WIC and other programs.

It is not clear what the oligarchs make in the U.S. - worldwide haul is $6.9 million.

Sounds like making access to formula easier vs Breast feeding might be an unintended after effect.

making formula easier than breast feeding an unintended outcome-

I doubt it is unintended..it is more likely a matter of control, and the bottom line for the formula makers. I am old enough to be amazed at how our government has evolved/deteriorated over the decades. And I also realize this is not new, just more advanced and more visible.
