It's time.

Had to do it for my 14 y/o cat. I understand how you feel.

I’m now in my 60’s and have been down that road many times in my life. You are doing this for your pet. It must be done.

Not from the disease listed, but I have had to have a beloved pet put down. It is one of the hardest things you’ll ever have to do, but also one of the most compassionate. *Note: this does not apply to people.

VERY sorry to hear about this tragic circumstance, Kent.

I can only say from experience that Wally will let you know when he is ready. If he is not ready, euthanasia is NOT an option. IMHO, I might add.Again, very, very sorry to hear this and I am sure that Wally will be sorely missed forever. You certainly did right by him.

It's time. It's the grace you owe your pet. Stay with the dog at the vet's. It over quickly and it appears painless. It's a very sad duty but it's your's this time. I've done it before and it is very sad but the dog deserves an easy passage.

Good luck.

I feel for your decision.

We had a St Bernard that was hit by a vehicle, and it was apparent that he wasn't going to live and was in extreme pain.

I put him down but it wasn't easy and only you can decide if saving him the pain is the thing to do.

I'll say a prayer for you and your dog.

God Speed.

Sorry to hear about your buddy, Kent. Sadly, all of our days come to an end, dogs too. But better days are ahead for your dog with fields of rabbits and squirrels to chase.

Hang in there.

We are dealing with a similar circumstance with a loved friend, our pet whom we rescued. He has a form of cancer. We are treating it, but when he lets us know that he is in pain, we will gently put him down. Have done this before several times. It is the only true answer when there is no longer any hope, and your friend is in pain.

And I agree this does not apply to people, as I have been there, too, and recently.

We have had to see several of our beloved pets put to sleep. It was easier on our pets to remain with them to comfort them. It was tough but we have left the room once and not since let a pet go alone. We also had our beloved Lab put to sleep at home by a Vet who specializes in home euthanasia. It was much less traumatic for the dog. We also didn’t have the miserable drive home without our good friend.

I don’t think one person here who has been through what you’re going through would tell you to go ahead and let your dog suffer. We put down our 16-year-old Sandy, who also came from the pound, a couple of months ago. It was rough, but she is so much better off today than she was that day.
We stayed with her until the end. I think that was very important for her, but also for my wife and me.

My heart goes out to you. Losing your best doggie pal is terrible. I wish I had some better advice to give.

Listen to the vet.

Grieve.

Adopt again. Make new memories.

Doggie years = 98, you took good care of him, its time. Ours lived to 15, he was black too, and his muzzel never turned white. He looked like 5 but was 3x that. Sad, we miss him, wish he could live as long as us, but big dogs who live till 14 -15 have given you a gift of a couple of extra years.

I kept my lovely dog Bean alive five months longer than he should have been for me, not for him. He had kidney failure. We paid a fortune to keep him alive because I could not face living without him. In the end we had to put him to sleep anyway. I may have had him for five more months but he did not have the life he deserved. I would not do it again to an animal I love. It has been five years and I still miss him.

You are going to have to do what you think is best for your lovely dog. It’ll be hard and you will cry, but that is okay.
