Just Say No to Buzzwords!
Somewhat Reasonable ^ | November 20, 2010 | Matt Glans

We all hate buzzwords, just like the writers for "The Simpsons." who made fun of them a while back (and ... well ... always.

But there's a new list out this year of the most execrable buzzwords of 2010. They include "win-win," "synergy" and "ping." Are you guilty of using some of these in 2010?

I must admit. I've used "metrics" a lot to discuss online traffic and other "measurables" (ugh) that I'm responsible for in my job.

I’ve used “Synergy” a few hundred times talking about the program I have that shares my mouse/keyboard from one computer to the other over the network. But those usages don’t count.

For counted usages I’ve used “synergy” once that I know of, properly in a sentence, in 1994, and not as some business buzzword. Don’t think I ever used it before or after that.

Yeah, these are the phrases that should be placed in the latest version of Bull-$#!+ Bingo. You take the page into a meeting and listen for the phrases. Livens up meetings.

BTW - The phrase turn-key apparently has been stolen by idiots. In project management if an effort is not turn-key some responsibilities belong to the customer. OTOH, turn-key means that the contractor will do everything.

I am trying to get “McGerky” used as a buzzword. 20 years and no luck. I’ll keep trying even though I don’t give a McGerky.

Here is my 30,000 foot vision: What we need here is a dynamic outside-the-box web-based paradigm to increase our global mindshare in a pervasive distributed team-oriented process.

Now that I’ve read it....they forgot “light speed” in any business or marketing form, for example “light speed ahead of the competition”

Is Glans a buzzword, a bad word, or a lastname?

“Did you know PING is actually an acronym? Packet Internet or Inter-Network Groper.”

Looks like the internet was really invented by Bill Clinton.

Ari, that was brilliant. Didn’t know you had such a flair for words. You seem to know a thing or two about computing, as well.

I learn new stuff about folks all the time around this joint...

LOL. Don't worry. I don't speak metro-sexual. I can hardly even translate that crap into English.
