Obama offers a 60 Vote contradiction - Video
The Obama Report ^ | 10/29/10

Posted on 10/29/2010 6:52:56 AM PDT by Frankusa

President Obama voiced displeasure with the 60 vote Senate majority rule on Wednesday saying, "I would love not to have a 60 vote requirement."

The President suggested that procedural obstacles, like the aforementioned requirement, have made it difficult for him to advance his Progressive agenda.

The former Chicago poll added: "There are all kinds of things that happened during the course of these two years, in terms of process, that I would like to see changed."

Obama's words, however, appeared to contradict some of his past statements.

In an interview with CBS in 2004, Mr. Obama emphasized the importance of using a 60 vote Senate majority "to move an American agenda forward," rather than "a Democratic or Republican agenda." In a speech to the Center for American Progress in 2006, then-Senator Obama criticized the notion that "we" can "identify our core base..., throw 'em red meat" and rely "on a 50 plus 1 victory." He says that like it's a bad thing.

“I would love not to have a 60 vote requirement.”

Charles the First loved not to have a Parliament.

Caligula loved not to have a Senate.

I have absolutely no doubt that you would prefer to just be a thug dictator. Ushering in full blown Stalinist Marxism would be far easier if it weren't for that pesky Constitution and that whole "public opinion" thingy, huh Obamalamadingdong?

Obama's words, however, appeared to contradict some of his past statements.

Shocked, SHOCKED! I tell you!

How many filibusters did 0bama participate in on the few days he actually worked as a Senator?

This is just like the recent outbreak of 0bama policy statement regarding race.

In just this last week we have (on Telemundo) “Hispanics must PUNISH their enemies” and “Republicans can get in the back of the bus”, now COMPARE THAT to his 2008 campaign speeches on “there’s not a hispanic or a black America - ONLY a UNITED Stated of America!”.

He is now fully exposing who and what he really is and it totally conflicts with the facts of his prior comments.

Thats OK Barry. After Tuesday you won’t have to worry your little head about having to have 60 votes. Because then, having sixty votes will be a sad, distant memory.

I think he would rather have a dictatorship with a rubber stamp Congress and a state controlled media, not that it would be much different than the current situation.

From a poster at Hillbuzz

A story I heard recently from a reliable source: right before Obama was nominated, 2 manufacturing executives happened upon him at Reagan Airport around mid night while waiting for the redeye back to Chicago. He was sitting on a shoeshine stand alone reading a paper and they decided to approach him, introduce themselves and make conversation about Chicago, their companies etc.He continued reading his paper while they introduced themselves. After a few minutes of one sided conversation, Obama lowered his paper, stopped them and said “people pay a lot of money for an audience with me” and then continued reading his paper.Stunned at his response and obviously left speechless they stood there for a few seconds. Obama lowered his paper again and stated “I thought I made myself clear”. This tells you all anyone needs to know about the essence of the man.

TRANSLATION: I wish these process rules would go away so I can just be a tinpot dictator.

This may be some of the BS the lame duck congress plans to enact on their way out.

Why is the song “I Just Can’t Wait to be King” from the Lion King movie playing in my head now?

Your post is closest to what may actually happen.

Prediction:

Before it adjourns, the lame-duck Senate will amend its rules regarding the filibuster.

As most are aware, the Senate makes it own rules by simple majority vote, which cannot be filibustered.

It looks like Obama may be “suggesting” that the Senate will vote to change the cloture requirement from 60 to 50 votes as one of its last actions. They are hoping that after the election they will still retain 50 “on their side” (Lieberman and Sanders notwithstanding as “independents”), plus the tie-breaker vote of Biden as president of the Senate.

They’re probably playing with fire here. But the ‘rats have become so driven that they just don’t seem to care anymore.

The guy wants to be king and rule by fiat. This is painfully obvious to anyone with more than two functioning brain cells.

Even the Left admits this fact, however, they are actually in favor of it.

He’ll love it again if, as seems possible, the GOP gets a majority in both the House and the Senate.

Obama couldn’t get his agenda past by 60 DEMOCRATS in the senate.

He says whatever, whenever it suits him. I’ve long given up trying to make any sense of anything he says. Lying is his process.
