So the criticism is of the Beck rally is:
1. Not enough like an evangelical tent meeting
2. Not enough like MLK’s original speech
3. Both 1 & 2
4. Neither 1 nor 2
5. I don’t have the slightest idea, actually, and neither does the author, but I just hate Beck, like the author does.
Would you perhaps feel compeled to post a pic of some folks that share your views/heart/soul??????
Don't feel compelled too.
I think it can also apply to you.
And by the way, I am not a Mormon and I am not promoting Beck for anything. I'm not even saying you should watch his show.
It had the county fair feel about it.
I did not hear one harsh word exchanged during the entire day.
If it woke up some politicians all the better. Although I understand that Obama did not bother to watch any of it.
I have been a longtime fan of Beck’s. My favorite show of his was the post Election 2004 Gloatathon. That was awesome! I am still a fan of his, I think he is mostly right about the issues. But I must admit that the whole thing makes me feel uneasy these days, I fear he may unknowningly be turning into what I dislike most about the Obama thing... the whole “Person as a savior” idea... I know he is trying NOT to have this turn out that way, but it just seems to be headed in that direction....
I believe he has done well by bringing a long overdue measure of participation to the conservative/libertarian base. I also believe it's a bit insulting to those who already live their lives by Christian, Hindu, Jewish, Buddhist, etc. values to say they aren't doing enough.
it was all a bit New Agey for me or perhaps a bit Millerite.

Though the revival flavor was not unwelcome, what drove me to spend the time and money to be there was anger. I'm an employer, and I'm angry at what this administration has done to my country, so I was a bit disappointed in the lack of red meat.
Perhaps there are statistically few blacks who work in the (enemy) private sector. Fewer even who own small businesses such that they could feel the target on their backs. The shame is that, again statistically, among blacks who aren't recipients of government largess, so many have come to be employed by government in the delivery mechanism.
I'll bet the blacks who were in attendance own businesses, or are smart enough to realize what Obama is doing.
You weren't paying attention, Mr. Caruba. Beck explicitly stated (many times) that it would not be a political event.
Dr. King was working specifically to end a particular injustice.
Beck called America to remember who she is.
Two entirely different purposes. I'm surprised at this piece. Caruba is usually much better than this.
Having watched all of it on TV and wondering at the time ... how are they going to attack this??? The attempts have been farcical as I thought they would be. Actually, nobody has brought it up yet, but there were no burkas spotted ... OMG, a group was left out! I also didn’t see the Cub Scouts represented. This was also travesty. I think Beck pulling this off in a way that literally can not be criticized is quite an accomplishment in itself.
Nor does he mention that MLK's niece, Dr. Alveda King, was a featured speaker. Surely she counts for something, and should be mentioned as I am sure she would have been had she appeared at Sharpton's event. But the media, in its attempt to slap Beck, has slapped MLK's niece by avoiding to mention her attendance or the words of her speech. How racist is that?
Yet, he of course makes no mention that Sharpton's crowd was hardly a mixed one. And Sharpton seemed to only have one white speaker. Nor does he or any media mention that Sharpton and his speakers spoke about force, fighting for more, and the injustices of the past. With voices raised in anger they addressed and incited their crowd to be upset and displeased. There was no talk of giving back, of praising God, or of being a responsible, loving citizen, things that MLK advocated. They should have asked Dr. Alveda King what she thought of their platform. But, since she stood with Beck, I am sure that was enough of a statement of her feelings.
That one day the media will judge men, not by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character!
The event was advertised as a non-political rally from the beginning. Having said that, Beck has done more to educate us on American history, and exposed Obama’s Marxist past and associations than any other person. That alone makes him an American treasure.
Nicely stated
