Too few school children of today grow up knowing what Gustavus Adolphus - the Lion of the North - accomplished in his lifetime.
Northern Europe, especially Scandinavia, of today is nothing like "Trainspotting".
Northern Germany, Scandinavia, the Netherlands and Britain of today disposes of more industrial plants, more of well reputed universities and more of well educated workers than any other comparable part of the planet.
Why?
In one word:
Protestantism.
Regardless of the differences between the largest Lutheranist church on Earth, the Church of Sweden, and the Church of England which understands itself to be both Catholic and Reformed, Non-Catholic Christian tradition has conquered the planet.
As a nation, The United States of America of course bows down to no other power, but no one could deny that the US in many ways is a product of Protestantism.
So what to do with it?
My country, tiny Sweden, has proved Russia is defeatable (we took Moscow unlike Hitler and Napoleon managed to) and we also managed to lay siege to Germany (in the 17th century) for 15 years.
This, indeed, is a cornerstone of Western history:

These simple historical facts few obedient, servant teachers in the ugly regimes of China, Venezuela and Russia today acknowledge in their daily missions.
Chavez & Co. don't scare me much, neither does China and Russia.
But they are hinders in our way and we Protestants should take their mismanagement of society into account.
What is my point?
Despite two world wars laying Europe in ruins two times within a century, Western Civilization did not stop.
It will go on and Americans ought not to be surprised if countries like Sweden and Denmark etc continue to send troops to Afghanistan.
We Westerners quarell a lot internally, yes, but we don't let each other down when it really counts.
As all of Europe watched the horror of the WTC-attacks on our TV screens, we too felt like being attacked.
To all of America:
America is not alone.
Now, let's organize ourselves like Gustavus Adolphus once organized his people and do what is eternally right.
There is no other way ahead.

Not to pick nits, but how would sterilise a woman who was already probably 25 years past menopause?
But, by gum, we coulda if we'd a set'n our minds t'it!
The program was long over by the time of the artile—she had been sterilized long before.
Why exactly do you admire Titus Quinctius Flamininus? I think he was pretty smart leader too.
That is true — and the US wouldn’t have needed to be invited in as an ally of Putin.
They didn't kill those million Russians in hand to hand combat you know.
Spain was a highly complex situation. The top dogs there, exclusive of the late-arriving Bourbons, all have Cornish language titles/surnames.
When I was in grade/elementary school the Bedels in Central Indiana lied to us about school lunch and said it was "Really Fish".
Remember, Sweden lost Finland in 1812 and withdrew from the Continent. The overwhelming majority of Finish nobles and entrepreneurs went to America and purchased vast tracts of land where they and their descendants just plumb disappeared (until I found them ~ and they weren't in Minnesota or Wisconsin either).
Finland then became a separate Duchy ~ the personal property of the Czar.
It had that status until the early 1900s when it achieved independence.
There is still a large Swedish speaking minority in several parts of Finland. Still, throughout the period of independence, politically clever Swedes and Danes (Swedes who were forced to become Danes as the Swedish empire was whittled down) continued to operate relatively freely in Finland ~ much to the financial benefit of the Czar.
This area was, by any account, the wealthiest place on Earth. Later in the 19th century the Czar could pay for building railways throughout European Russia out of the pocket change he earned from Finland's taxes.
At the same time Finns fled the area as the Great Famines of the 19th Century swept through there.
Nobody wants to take a risk of that having happened by invading Sweden, or even Norway, Finland, Denmark or the Sapma, or even the Kola ~ have you noticed the Russian withdrawal from that area?
Like that one?
That's called REAL SPIN!
Cornish names/titles? Some examples? Rodrigo etc. don’t sound very Cornish to me, though of course, Galicia has been tied to Cornwall for millenia, yes
Not really — the Finns bought their own weapons and ammunition. The Swedes did not pay for those.
Not really — the Finns bought their own weapons and ammunition. The Swedes did not pay for those. And there weren’t a million Russians killed, though the numbers were high (130,000 killed and 190,000 injured on the Soviet side as opposed to 25,000 and 44,000 on the Finnish side). The finns successfully used their winter and the knowledge of their geography to keep out a badly prepared Soviet side (the top generals had been killed during Stalinist purges even the troops wore khaki colored uniforms and the tanks were painted green — hardly sensible for -40F temperature with snow covered grounds)
Interestingly enough with the Army pulled out, and nothing but heavily guarded Naval installations filled with rusting atomic submarines, the area is given over for the most part to sheep ~ which is what the Skolt Sa'ami need to use in place of reindeer (due to the radiation from the Chernobyl catastrophe).
Thanks to the earlier Army occupation there are a lot of buildings where the sheep can be herded during bad weather.
Archaeology easily demonstrates no presence of non-Sa'ami earlier than about the 1300s in the Kola. In reality there are no "Russians" until Boris Godunov ~ mid-1500s.
It would be a good idea to begin appropriate personnel clearance and return the entirity of the Scandinavian Peninsula, the Kola and the Carpathian mountains to the Sa'ami at the earliest possible date. I am sure you would agree.
